1 out of 5 stars Worst fighting game ever   October 31, 2007

This is the worst fighting game ever!!! It doesn't stand up to Tekken 5. It shakes, shivers, and wets its pants at the thought of Tekken 5. If you want a great fighter go out and get Tekken 5. It doesn't even stand up to Tekken Tag Tournament!!!

5 out of 5 stars The Best Yet From the Franchise   October 29, 2007
I just recently grabbed this game again after letting a friend borrow it several months ago (with no sign of returning it). Been playing it ever since. I've always liked the Soul Calibur series, but this one is by far my favorite.

The classic Soul Calibur staple characters are all here (Voldo, Ivy, Nightmare, Astaroth, among others), along with several new characters, and the brand new create-a-character mode, which was actually very well made.

The Chronicles of the Sword mode will earn you all your cash to buy new create-a-character items, weapons for existing characters, as well as art and videos. It plays almost like a real-time strategy game, with battles on the field becoming real 1 on 1 fights. Might sound kinda bizarre, but it was actually executed very nicely, and is an addicting aspect of gameplay.

All in all, if you like fighting games, you already know you need to pick this up. If you're on the outside looking in, this is a great place to start.

My friend was watching this on ebay for alot more than they were selling it on this site. I ordered enough for free shipping and I thought it was a great deal.

Soul Calibur III was the third game I purchased in this genre of fighting, and it is by far the best I've played. Of course, there are always problems to be dealt with, so these were mine:
-Frustrating interface- The menu interface at times was a little frustrating to navigate, as to get to certain options, you'd have to backtrack all the way to the beginning and work your way over. After a while you start to get annoyed.
-CPU AI can get VERY difficult. They will string together high combo moves in one go, reducing your health anywhere from 1/4-2/3 with just one combo.
-Load times can seriously hamper your game play experience, when going between battles in CotS, and when shopping for armor.
-Unique storyline what? Each of the characters basically follow the same route, fight the same ending boss, etc etc. The only replay value is to unlock characters, items and weapons.
-English voices were a pain. However, the staff were kind enough to include the japanese voices, so I switched to that.

The pro's:
-Highly customizable character creation. There is a huge selection of armors (you can choose the colors as well) available for you to create a character of your liking. This is one of my favorite parts of the game. If only they had more character slots! (You can unlock an extra in the game though)
-Beautiful graphics. The graphics are fantastic, utilizing the PS2's processor to its fullest extent. Everything is smooth, no cutting or anything of the sort. However, widescreen mode on a relatively large TV will result in blurry text, which can make your eyes watery. Actual combat however is perfectly fine.
-Extra side-games help keep you supplied with a variety of things to do, such as the CotS, the Soul Arena, and tournaments. All will earn you gold towards the shops, and continuous battling will allow you to unlock more items to further enhance your gameplay. (Also, you will need to play all of them in order to unlock all aspects of the game)
-VS Mode! This game is a great hit for parties, where you can fight against your friends. In a group of people where nobody knows what they're doing, or the extreme opposite where you have die-hard fans, everyone will enjoy this game alike.

Bottom line: You really can't say no to a game that has such a cheap price tag and so much stuff bundled into the game. This game offers countless hours of gameplay and stunning graphics.
