4 out of 5 stars A New beginning indeed.   May 10, 2008
Okay, here is what I have to say about the game. Sure, a lot of people may not agree with me, but the truth of the matter is, well, I LOVED this game. It rates third best in all the Spyro games I've played (part 2 being the best and part 1 being the runner up). This game told a spectacular story, which in itself earns a major point from me. I loved the character designs and the all-star cast of voices. Sparx having a voice was a nice touch (although sometimes David Spade's witty quips can come off as annoying more than funny), and I absolutely adored the way Spyro and Cynder were done. They were nicely created. This new story ditches the kiddish, immature brazen Spyro of the past (which I loved) and makes him more mature, serious, innocent, and brave (which I really, really love). On the down side, the game doesn't have much replay value, as the sidequests are gone, as well as the "find all the gems in the game" feature. But that didn't stop me from loving the level designs, the engrossing story, and the awesome personalities of each character. The game was also way too short, but the way it was created does make up for it. I have yet to play the second installment, and I am just chomping at the bit for the third installment (not to mention the movie coming out). All in all, I'd say that the developers are taking Spyro in a fresh, new direction. Stuff it, haters! This game rocks, and I only hope the second trilogy will give us all more of the same.

2 out of 5 stars Spyro...Super Easy To Beat!!!!   January 10, 2008

This game, Spyro a New Beginning, was way too easy to win. Not at all like any of the other Spyro games. The voices were cool and the graphics were very good. My 9 year old daughter thinks it was really good, but too easy to beat also. She also agrees that it was too different from the other games. She has replayed it a bunch of times, so it must be some kind of fun. We both enjoyed playing it through the first time. I wish they would make a Spyro game the old fashioned Spyro way!!

I ordered this game for my son for Christmas. Although the shipment was a LITTLE slower than I expected, it arrived WELL in time for Christmas, and in excellent condition. I am VERY pleased and WILL use this seller again.

1 out of 5 stars Don't even rent this, let alone buy it   July 30, 2007

My wife and I have loved all of the Spyro games up until this point. Spyro got her into platform games and eventually opened up almost all game types to her. Spyro will always have a special place in our heart, but I think I can honestly say this is the worst game I have ever played (and I have played lots of games). The graphics are nice... I'll give it that. But outside of that, it is terrible. All of the levels are linear. No options, no secrets, no anything... just run through and press attack a bunch. No mini-games, no eggs, no gems to collect, no fun. Noticed something odd, it's like they tried to make it like God of War. Power ups in the same way, melee based (Spyro's tail swipe looks oddly like flailing your daggers in GOW), even a weird level at the end that requires lots of jumping. The worst part of it is, there are only like 5 enemies in the whole game. You fight monkeys. Then monkeys. Then monkeys. All are the same... some are made bigger and in each level they have on a new jacket or gear or something. They keep attacking and attacking and attacking... nothing exciting, they just keep attacking. My wife and I said we wouldn't go on with our day until we finished this stupid game. My goodness, it is just terrible. I can't imagine anyone enjoying it. I can't imagine anyone who made it thinking highly of it. Then they even leave the end open. I hope they will either put Spyro out of his misery, or... hmmm... sorry we loves the guy, but I think this game really killed him off.
