5 out of 5 stars Spectacular, lives up to every bit of the hype   March 9, 2008

The highly anticipated Super Smash Bros. Brawl is here, and it lives up to every single ounce of the hype that has been surrounding it. Make no mistake, Super Smash Bros. Brawl is one of the best games ever made for the Wii at this time, and the absolute best multiplayer game available for the system as well. Starting off with a massive roster of fighters (some of whom have to be unlocked) including stalwarts like Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Samus, Kirby, Pikachu, and Star Fox's Fox McCloud; to new characters to the series like Kid Icarus' Pit, Meta-Knight, Zero-Suit Samus, Fire Emblem's Ike, and to top it all off, Sega mascot Sonic the Hedgehog (!) and even Metal Gear Solid icon Solid Snake (double !). Even with such an unorthodox roster of fighters, Super Smash Bros. Brawl manages to have a wonderfully balanced roster, no matter how ridiculous the game can get. Graphically, the game has some flaws in terms of the details of the characters and environments, but these aren't all that noticeable thanks to the fact that the game is so insanely fun. No matter if you play Super Smash Bros. Brawl online or offline, this is one of the most fun video games you will play on the Wii, or possibly any other system to boot. Four-player mode is where the game really shines, as things just get even crazier. Not to mention that you can also share game replays, screenshots, and even customized levels with others, which is a great little bonus feature in itself. The only real other flaws here are that the game's Subspace Emissary stages, while fun, could have been better, and there are some long loading times to be found too. Small flaws aside though, you simply can't go wrong with Super Smash Bros. Brawl. There is a reason you got in a Wii in the first place, and it's because of nearly flawless, first party games like this. If you own a Wii, you need to own Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it's just that simple.

5 out of 5 stars Lets Get Ready To Brawl!   March 9, 2008

I have always been a fan of the Smash Bros. series, ever since the first installment of the game (you know, the one with only 12 characters and eight stages?). And I became an even bigger fan with the release of Melee, which completly upt the antee on the whole series, with tons of playable characters and stages, even bizzarer items, and an upgraded story mode. So after that, I began to wonder, how will Nintendo top this?

And so, nearly seven years after Melee, the creative team comes out swinging with Super Smash Bros. Brawl, one of the most addictive and enjoyable games since Melee. Forget Mario Galaxy or Metroid or any other flagship games, if you truley want to enjoy your Wii experience, you really need only two games. Twilight Princess and Smash Bros., thats all yuo need for hours of fun.

Like before, the character count has been umped, with returning fighters like Mario, Link, Pikachu, and Samus along with new comers Ike, Pit, Lucas, and many more joining the fray, even third party players like Solid Snake and Sonic have been added to the already impressive roster. As for stages, we're given even more diverese terrain ranging from a castle battle to an upgraded Pokemon Stadium to the biazzare world of Pictochat. It shows Nintendo went all out for this game by trying to stuff as much characters into the game, which adds to an endless array of fighting.

Now, there are a couple of new features added to this installment, the first notable being the Smash Ball. Once you grab this glowing orb of power, watch out for a devistating attack that can turn the tables of even the most hopeless fight. Also added is a new story mode, called the Subspace Emmissary. This surprisingly meaty game has you play as many of the characters as they fight to stop an evil Minister from taking over their world. Along the way, you can pick up trophies and stickers and a whole bunch of other cool collectibles for your gallery. Oh, I nearly forgot about stickers! Well, this little do-hicky's are much like trophies but unlike trophies, you can do a whole bunch of stuff with them like power up your player, make a scrapbook, even get a few added bonuses if your lucky.

As for Wi-Fi, this game has a surprisingly good connection (as long as its within the continental US, mind you) and being able to play others from across the land can really add to the whole fun.

So after you have experienced Brawl, there really is only one question left. How can they top this one?

5 out of 5 stars Veterans and newcomers alike will have endless hours of fun with this game   March 9, 2008

Coming from someone who has waited years for this game and stood out in the cold until midnight with about 100 other diehard fans Smash Bros. Brawl is everything it was promised to be. It wont disappoint melee veterans who were skeptical on the new game play; and it definitely won't disappoint newcomers. The character roster is amazing and diverse. There is a character fitting every type of skill someone could want. The events are fun and there are tons of them. The trophies page is huge. So there are countless hours to be spent collecting them. There are a few drawbacks that will take some getting used to if you are a veteran but they are minor. Here's the lowdown.

Pros.
- Huge character roster.
- Has a pick up and play style but can still be hard to master if your serious about it.
- Very good graphics compared to the old super smash (duh it came out in 2001)
- There is actually a story mode this time around.
- You can spend an entire party playing this game with so many people!
Cons.
- The characters seem to be more evenly matched.
- It is slightly slower paced then melee which was lightning fast.
- No more Roy?!?!?! (Thats a personal one that most people wouldn't care about :p)

All in all its a great game that most people that own a wii will have by the end of the month. If your looking for hours of fun this game will definitely provide it. Highly recommended. And just a little advice. If you want to get really good at these games, go to a midnight release. You haven't seen nerdy until youv'e been to one. cheers.

5 out of 5 stars The most entertaining, fun, and incredible game you'll ever play   March 9, 2008

Simply put, the best game out this year and perhaps this decade. If you found Melee to be incredible, Brawl blows Melee right out of the water. The immense character selection and varieties, the vast selection of stages and items and stages makes the combinations in this game infinite. You'll spend hours upon hours upon hours playing this game with friends and family and if you choose, with gamers everywhere else on the internet. Not only is this game the perfect multiplayer game, it also has a well developed single player. Once again, the best game, period.

5 out of 5 stars OMG. This game is simply amazing!!   March 9, 2008

I just bought this game at Gamestop last night (geez, the line was long), and heck yeah, I wasn't disappointed. I was never a big fan of Smash Bros, but Smash Bros Brawl has simply captured my heart. Just a short note, I am one of the top 600 players for Medal of Honor Heroes 2, and I am extremely critical when it comes to games. And I don't play just for fun, I play for competition =)
Anyway, let's get to the main point. The game is well worth the $50, and here is why.
Pro:
1.The controllers: Choose from just the Wii remote to game cube control (which costs $10 now), and especially with Wii & Nun Chuck + manually controller set up, the controller is simply perfected. I haven't try the Wii + Nun Chuck yet, but I believe Wii + Nun will provide another spectacular gaming experience to the Wii owners.
2.Graphic: The graphic is nearly perfect for a Wii game. I love the clarity of the characters, and the innovation of each stage.
3.Stages: The number of stages already augments the replay value of this game. Seriously, it is going to take me at least a week to master every single stage. Oh and another big A+ for the capability to create your own stage. I believe gives like a week or so, you will be able to download customized stage from the internet. (You can simply do that by using a SD card reader and connect to your PC, and download the stages into your SD card. I got my SD card reader for $10)
4.Different game mode: The game is divided into solo and groups. With solo mode, you have the subspace emissary, which is the adventure mode. With this mode you can play up to 2 players. And the classic, master hand, events, co-op events, stadium: target smash, home-run contest, multi-man brawl, training, secrets for continuing. For the group mode, you have Brawl, special Brawl, rotation and tourney. With the combination of that many game mode choices to choose from, I really don't think I will ever get tired of this game. For more information about game modes, please visit http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/gamemode/index.html.
5.The characters: Smash Bros Brawl added even more characters this game. With 13 characters from the game cubes, 12 new characters for the wii, and 7 secret characters to unlock, that's 30+ characters right there to choose from already.
6.Wi-Fi: I can't say the WiFi platform is perfect, but I think Smash Bros Brawl has the best WiFi system "for the Wii System". I experience no lag during the online game play. You can also add your friend's Wii address onto your friend list.
7.Others: Super Smash is unique for each characters, and you can now save replays into your SD card directly.

Cons: (No game is perfect, and it is true for all games, even Halo 3) But if you think about the value versus the game itself, the game itself deserves a rating that is beyond 5 out 5.
1.Wi-Fi: I guess it is because the game just came out yesterday, so I can hardly find someone to play online with. There is no voice chat, or message system, so if you find someone who you are compatible with online, you wish you can talk to that person, or message him to hope to add him to your friend list, but unfortunately, you really can't do that yet. This bothers me so much when I was playing Medal of honor heroes 2 online.
2.There is only time mode when you play WiFi. I would hope I can choose stock mode when I play online, that makes the game more exciting.

Seriously, I can't really find any flaw of this game. The game is just awesome. I enjoy both playing with myself and with my friends. And wait maybe a week or so, more people will have the game, and more people will be at the WiFi platform. By that time, I will be able to WiFi with my friends together. (Remember, you can actually do a multiple players on WiFi with this game, rather than single player. Which means, when you do a team brawl, you can actually do it with your friend side-by-side)
