Great 3rd party contoller February 25, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This controller is a great 3rd party controller. It works well, never loses it's wireless connection, and it feels much better than the Sony controller. As already stated, the main drawbacks would be no six-axis support (not a problem for me as I've never used it anyway), and the PS3 cannot be powered on by the controller. As for the reviewers who wanted to know why the controller wasn't a bluetooth wireless controller, Sony's licensing prevents any third party manufacturer from tapping in on its PS3 bluetooth technology. So if it's a priority that you can turn your PS3 on from your controller instead of walking over to it and turning it on, then the Sony six-axis is the only way to go. However, on the plus side, this Logitech DOES include a rumble pack! The only problem is that currently, no game supports rumble, but they are coming... Bottom line, great controller if the motion sensing Six-Axis is not something you're really looking for and you don't mind walking over to your PS3 to turn it on.
Solid controller with some room for improvement January 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this controller as a second for the six-axis that comes with the PS3. I wanted this to be my primary controller and "save" the six-axis for games that used the motion technology, which the Logitech does not have. The controller is solid and well constructed. The addition of alkaline batteries makes it a bit heavy, but I like some substance when holding something. Definetly feels better in the hand than the sony controller, and the texture allows you to hold onto it when extreme gaming ensues.
Some things that can be improved: 1. The PS button is a small button and not centered like on the Sony. 2. Connects via usb, Logitech has bluetooth keyboards, why not a bluetooth controller. This would eliminate the USB dongle that keeps on flashing and gets really annoying. 3. No six-axis. 4. No rumble (granted the Sony controller does not have this either) 5. Not rechargable, uses alkaline batteries, is heavy compared to other controllers.
So, there it is. I'm sure some of the other reviews speak more detailed about the connection to the PS3 which I feel is a bit slow, but I think it may be just my imagination.
Happy with this product December 25, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am using this controller mostly in my laptop and almost all the games which supports the gamepad detects this wireless controller without any issue. I don't remember installing any drivers for the wireless to work. Just Plug and play...
Almost perfect December 20, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Obviously it doesn't have six axis and you can't turn on the system but you can turn it off. But the controller is a little bit heavier and it feels a little wider because the outer grips are more narrow shaped. I laid one on top the other (Sony) and it's very noticeable. This controller is also taller because of the battery housing which for me it feels like there is more reach or space in between when using the L/R buttons on top and triggers on the bottom. Compared to the Sony controller this one also has a bit more plastic and that added with the weight of the batteries makes it feel more durable. So if you got bigger hands or you like to have a firm grip for me this controller felt a little bit more comfortable and definitely worth the reduced cost. By the way, I have used this to play through more than a handful of PS3 games and it works great.
Solid December 15, 2007 This was a quality product on the PS2 and it still is on the PS3. Sure, you don't have motion control, but the only game I can think of where it's needed is Heavenly Sword. Frankly this controller is just more comfortable than the six axis and especially perfect for PS2 games.
