1 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing!!!   February 17, 2008

As a loyal fan of EA Games and previous versions of NCAA Football, I was very disappointed in this game. I was blown away by all the features that they left out from NCAA '07. EA has always done a good job in the past of paying close attention to the small details, but they missed the mark on this game. I think in their haste to get this game out, they have upset a lot of people who paid good money for a game that is in my opinion, inferior to the '07 PS2 version.

For starters they left off all 1AA schools, create-a-team, and many features from create-a-player. The new recruiting mode is well done, but is very time consuming. It takes longer to manage your recruiting then it does to play a game during the season. Another thing that I found very annoying is the unrealistic high number of turnovers. This game is definitely geared towards a defensive minded player. Which I realize some people may enjoy, but I definitely don't. It is almost impossible to throw a deep pass on this game. Which I realize is realistic in some cases, but when you have a standout receiver going against a sub-par cornerback, you should be able to complete a deep pass every now and again. I also found that it is very difficult to control the actual throw. In previous versions you could easily throw a dart or a nice lob pass, on this version it is almost always a dart. I have also noticed that the game AI definitely increases to an unrealistic level once you reach the red zone. You will definitely be kicking a lot more field goals in this game then you have in previous versions...Which I don't like!

I also believe that the overall speed of the game is way too slow. The players look and feel like they are in slow motion. The juke moves are decent, but the controls are slow reacting. You have to initiate your juke move long before you get to the defender in order for it to work.

I also found that you have an overall lack of participation in this game. You might as well just call the plays and sit back and watch what happens when you are on defense. For someone like me who likes to be a part of the action, this game is very frustrating.

Amongst countless other details, the commentary is off in the game as well. The announcers will still be calling a previous play when you have moved on to the next play.

One thing I do like is the fact that they changed the way you call plays. While I still don't think it's perfect, it is much better. It is nice that you can call a play in a manner that a second player won't be able to watch your screen and determine what you called. One thing I think they need to add is an extended play clock. The current version is somewhat cumbersome and is very difficult to find the play you want in a timely manner. I would also say that about 40% of the plays are worthless.

Overall I think the game totally missed the mark. While the game is still better then most football games on the market, I think EA took a step back from their previous versions. I am hoping that in '09 they will bring back all the features that they took out and bring some of the control back to the player. They definitely need to bring back create-a-school and create-a-player (with even more features and options). If they keep the game play the way it is on defense, they might as well change the name to NCAA College Coaching!

3 out of 5 stars Unless you're a college football fan, you shouldn't get this.   January 30, 2008

The only reason I keep coming back to this game is because I am a huge Trojan fan. If I was just into any kind of football, I'd stick with Madden. Madden has way more options, and probably the only thing that NCAA has over the Madden series is the recruiting system and the spread option offense.

What I don't understand is, why am I so good at Madden, and yet, on NCAA, I can't throw a pass without fearing for my life that it will get picked off? Even with a top team like USC, you can still struggle to beat teams like Idaho.

The other thing is, the game plays so slowly. Sometimes, you swear you're not hitting that Sprint button, because the players are running as fast as tanks.

And on pre play snaps, you don't have the formation audibles that you get in Madden, so you're stuck with the same 5 audibles you always have, and you can't exploit the holes you read in the defense.

On the flip side, the recruiting system is awesome, and especially if you're into the draft/recruit parts of the season mode, you'll like the game. Also, the punt coverage is a lot better than Madden's.

This game is enjoyable to me cause i like the recruiting system and I'm a diehard USC fan. If it wasn't for that, this game wouldn't be on my list.

2 out of 5 stars Versus Mode unplayable   December 24, 2007

The Graphics are cool, the Campus mode is great but the game is missing the most importing thing in a football game and that is hiding your plays. This game is not playable when it comes to versus mode, because you can see what plays your opponent picks and they can see yours, this is the dumbest thing to have been put into a football game. I really like the College Football atmosphere but having someone be able to see my strategy and being able to prepare for it kills the game completely.

I just brought NCAA Football 2008 for my PS3 which I recently purchased. I was so excited until I popped the game in. First off, there is only camera view you can play on. I've always played the "side view" because it looks like your watching it on TV. Second, the characters look a little pudgy and too "comical" if you ask me. They look like they came off from some anime movie. However, the tackling was awesome and gameplay ain't too shabby. Has anyone played it for the xbox 360? If so, is the side view still available? I'm going to keep my PS2 version for now since its way better than this one.

Just when you think it NCAA can't get any better, they came out with NCAA 08, there are a few controller changes but the game is much better once you get the hang of the new changes.
