Great deal April 7, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
It is a great deal package, including a very funny game, Motrostorm and the PS3 game setup.
Lots of fun but lost some features April 5, 2008 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
The PS3 is great fun,and i love the graphics! Lots of multimedia options built right in. Pictures, video, music, internet, chatting, you name it it can do it. The only disappointment is that this new version of the 60 gig lacks the hardware to play PS2 games. It runs PS2 games with software and barely plays any games correctly. Some games run but always freeze some games have graphical issues that really affect gameplay. Very few games run the way they should. One of the major reasons I bought the 80 gig over the 40 gig was backwards compatibility. Boy was i pissed lol i have one game that works with out any issues. Other than this issue system is great. The blu rays hold 50 gigs so this system will last. most games don't even come anywhere near the limit. Double sided dvds are just under 10 gigs so pretty soon xbox users are gonna need bigger media to play future games making PS3 more of a long term investment in my opinion. Blu-ray looks great too but i use my system more for gaming. Enjoy and have fun you won't regret it.
Very pleased about it! April 5, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great purchase! Absolutely great. Too bad UPS messed up the shipping, maybe Amazon should use another postal carrier instead of them. But I am very satisfied with the purchase overall.
Great Multimedia And Gaming System April 5, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
You really cannot go wrong by buying this game console based on the wide variety of things that can be done with it(unmatched at the moment). It definitely is a bargain and Sony's loss at the checkout counter is indeed my gain. I will not list all of the things that it can do but some of the things which are relevant to me. 1/ The best Blu-ray player on the market bar none. Also with the recent 2.20 update this is the only 2.0 (BD-Live) player available at present.Cheap too when its features are compared to stand alone Blu-Ray machines.
2/ Excellent media hub. (Xbox 360 does this too)
3/ Saved me having to buy a home theatre or small form factor pc for the living room since I can happily surf the net in my living room with a standard USB keyboard or better yet a bluetooth wireless one.
4/ Surprisingly worked with my Logitech MOMO Pc steering wheel ( except for handbrake) allowing me to keep my $$ for a while before the eventual G25 wheel purchase.
5/ Works great for folding at home. I advise all to do this and fold for team 32. [...]
6/ The ability to update the harddrive with off the shelf 2.5" drives.
7/ Comes with a free game.
Cons :
1/ You will need to buy cables if you want anything beyond RCA cables. I guess that is standard for just about any other consumer electronic device. But the problem here is that besides HDMI cables you would have to buy a needlessly expensive Sony authorized breakout cable to get stuff like s-video or component cables.
2/ Contrary to many PS3 fanboys, this thing is noisy when running games and folding@home. I will not be arguing as to which is louder between this and the Xbox 360 because I don't care ........ it is still loud.
3/ despite having a very powerful parallel cpu in the Cell it at present is a very poor multitasker and there are many things which cannot be done at the same time. After some firmware updates you can download some things in the background and also surf the net will folding@home but not much else. I hope that future updates will fix this.
4/ Doesn't have as many good games as the Xbox 360 yet.
5/ The playstation store and online play would be really good if there wasn't the Xbox 360 to compare it to. Sony really needs to do some work in this regard.
6/ Does not come with a remote as standard.
Very impressed March 26, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I can't say enough about how pleasantly surprised I've been with this product. We bought it for its Bluray capability--gaming was a bonus. In fact, only downside is the lack of kid friendly games, which means our Gamecube will stay with us for quite some time. Nevertheless, this is a very versatile product and makes buying it as a Bluray player a smart choice considering what it costs compared to non-gaming players. I've not been disappointed.
