Not COD 4, but it's okay March 28, 2008 I'll be honest, I read the reviews on this game before purchasing it; and did so with doubts in my mind. I am stationed overseas and just bought the PS3 the other day, our exchange is severly lacking in video game department so I bought R6V2 just for something to do until my COD4 gets here from Amazon. First, let me say that it isn't as bad as some people have written. I haven't played the story mode the whole way through because I mostly play online, but it seems okay from what I've seen. The grafics are very nice and the controls seem to work reasonably well with the game (could be better). As my review's title says, this is no COD4! This game is fun to play online, but I wasn't terribly impressed. Very glichy, if you catch my drift. Also, I'm not sure if it's my internet connection or the game but, playing online I get this awful repeating noise that lasts an entire battle. No, it's not someone's machine gun shooting me. So, if anyone knows how to solve that problem and wouldn't mind sharing the knowledge, I'd really appreciate it.
Online servers are fixed... March 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Do not judge this game base don the bad reviews for the servers... When the game was released the servers were horrible, however as of about 6-7 hours ago they have been fixed and everything online runs fine... It is just a matter of whether or not you like the game play... It is a very similar game to RB6V1 like the other poster said, so if you liked rb6v then you will probably like this...
But the main thing to remember is online is fine now, don't judge it on that anymore...
Cool Game, Poor Performance 3.5 Stars March 26, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had it since it came out; I'm playing it right now. I have upgraded Road Runner high speed, COD4 looks and runs awesome in my house. This game lags in SINGLE PLAYER MODE offline!!! The frame rate is awful and it took me forever just to find where to even PLAY online and when I found it it seems you can only play in small 2-4 player coop matches? I may be mistaken but I tried even THAT and after 5 unsuccessful attempts at joining a match I gave up. This game is okay in single player mode, I think the the graphics lack compared to COD4 (Compare the detail in the rifle you carry for example)
I borrowed my friends EYE TOY and put my actual face on my R6V2 character....very cool. However, after playing this all day and switching to COD4, it's like a fresh glass of lemonade...Makes me not want to play this game but the storyline and sequence are mildly entertaining. Personally I will play this game until I beat it or get stuck, after which point I will trade it in towards a future game....the next SOCOM perhaps? Already put down for GTA4..... :)
Right up there with Call of Duty 4 March 25, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've been playing Call of Duty 4 for a long time now and that game was downright the best game of all time on any system. I love shooters and military games and this game vegas 2 is right up there with any of them.
There are some negatives: 1. slow down when too much action is in play 2. difficulty of game is pretty challenging 3. Can't play 4 player co-op split screen like COD 4
After getting this out of the way, the game is spectacular, the graphics are very nice, the speed is just right - not a run and gun like COD 4 more realistic and the sounds are authentic. I love hearing the clicking of loading a clip or hearing the grenades explode - so realistic! Also, the looking around the corners and shooting is so fun. Unlike COD 4 you can play co-op with a friend offline and this is really the best part of the game in campaign or terrorist hunt.
Finally, I've been looking for a game that reminds me of my alltime favorite PC game Counterstrike and this is it! Just picture counterstrike with much better graphics and sounds and even more realism and that's what VEgas Six 2 is......counterstrike affectionaidos rejoice!
Enjoyable/Interesting Features March 25, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
to start: this game took a while to load. It might have seemed even longer to me, because when I got it on the 24th of March PSN also released a Systems Update. So I had to wait for that to download/install. I started the game. RB6V2 had a patch (1.10). So I had to wait for that to download/install (this one was short). After that the game had to install itself. This took about as long as the Sys Update. It was just kind of ironic since I was anxious to get started.
RB6V2 is a good sequel. I had tried out the first, and it was just ok. The sequel is more enjoyable in my opinion. The ranking system and the new ACES system that allows for you to gain XP and weapons based on your style of play is a nice / welcome touch.
Within a couple of levels I noticed my "Marksman" and "CQB" XP rose very quickly as opposed to my "Assault" XP. So it depends on your personal style of play. Tag a headshot on a guy through a window while repelling will earn you points toward Marksman, while chucking a grenade into a room will get you well on your way towards the next Assault tier. And every other level rewards you with another weapon; while the Ranking system (total XP) seems to be more geared towards personalizing your character. I especially liked this feature, and am looking forward to unlocking some features later in the game. Just remember that while outfitting your character, certain camo-styles are NOT appropriate for all terrain/situations! (Kinda like Corky Romano, Brick: "Nice tie." Corky: "Thanks!" Brick: "It should give some lucky sniper a nice target to aim for.")
I also like how you can play through Single-Player (or Co-Op) to gain XP, which can be used Online as well. CoD4 had a similar system, but XP was only gained for ranks, and could only be gained online. Heh... speaking of which, unfortunately it took me a second or two to get used to the controls after playing CoD4, the L1 is now "Cover" as opposed to the Weapon Scope, which is R3. Made for a couple "interesting" firefights when I first started.
