2nd Time's the charm..... May 26, 2008 I had this Nyko Frontman on pre-order so I guess got one of the first off the assembly line. Big mistake! When I finally found the proper instructions for getting it synced (Nyko's were wrong...how does THAT happen!!??) it worked for a little while, but soon started to lose sync randomly and I was hating it. Thankfully, Amazon was great about it and sent me a new one right away. I am VERY happy now because, for me, the setup and feel of the buttons is far superior to the Harmonix guitar that ships with the game, and now the replacement one Amazon sent works flawlessly.
Play 2 games for the price of 1 guitar! May 23, 2008 Like every other PS3 owner, I was looking for a guitar that was compatible with BOTH rockband and GH3...this one gets the job done. I've had no issues with syncing or using the guitar like others.
I'll point out what I've noticed...
Negatives: -awkward looking, REALLY looks like a toy guitar; but then again, it is. -the neck of the guitar is very thick. -awkward toggle "d-pad" -NOT lefty friendly -no fret buttons at the neck base like RB fender strat guitar.
Positives: -compatible w/ rockband AND GH3 -mini usb port for recharging
Unique features: -clicking strum; GH3 owners will like that feature. -whammy bar spring feels well constructed. -fret buttons are spaced out.
I think it basically comes down to is whether you're willing to adapt to the guitar. If you want a replica of the guitar you're used to, then buy that exact one. However, if compatibility is what you want, consider this one...it doesn't take long to get used to the different configuration...adapt and step "outside of the box"! The person who uses it the most will probably be your guests anyways.
If you're worried about quality then buy the available extended warranty. I had to return a fender strat because the whammy bar spring went out...the replacement has the same issue, just a matter of time before it goes poof! The issue of quality is debatable.
Awesome Guitar May 23, 2008 We LOVE this guitar. It works well with both Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3. We actually will pick this guitar up before the Rock Band guitar. The strumming bar is not as stiff and clicks, whereas the fret buttons don't click. More like the Guitar Hero guitars we are use to playing. It isn't as fun when the ending bonuses come but well worth it. Thinking of buying another one to replace the Rock Band guitar.
An essential guitar for Rockband May 21, 2008 The Nyko Frontmant works flawlessly for both Guitar Hero 3 and Rockband. In my view, it's not quite as good as the Les Paul that comes with GH3, but is far and away superior to the Strat that comes with Rockband. In Rockband, I've been able to beat several songs that I could couldn't come close to beating before. Finally, if you've got both games, this is a great option if you want to pick up a 2nd guitar controller in order to place bass.
Great guitar with multi-game functionality May 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I got this because I own Rock Band and wanted the extra guitar in that game while still having the ability to get an unbundled Guitar Hero game later. Although structurally it looks more like a Guitar Hero guitar, it works great for Rock Band (although I have not tried it on a Guitar Hero game).
I, like several other people here, had a frustrating time getting it to start because the instruction manual is wrong about how to get it going (you have to click the Nyko button about three times before it will connect to the foot pedal), but once I got it going, I had no problems and it was great.
Can someone confirm whether this guitar works with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and/or Guitar Hero II for the PS2 (obviously in the PS3).
