This is one great guitar April 24, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I tried out the Gibson for Guitar Hero 3 as well as the Fender for Rock Band, and I have to say that the Frontman beats them both hands down! The guitar has perfect timing to the games, and the feel of the guitar while playing is very confortable and easy to control. While some have said the buttons are a little small, I feel they are fine, but if you've played off the GH guitar the buttons will feel the same. If you've played RB, yes, they are different, more to the "original" settings. Also, I like the fact that you can charge this guitar on the PS3, opposed to just running off of battery, saves a lot of money! The difference between this guitar and the RB guitar is the fact that YOU control the Star Power, it's not automatic, so you are able to achieve a higher score. Last thing that I like is that they moved the pitch change from below the strummer to the bottom right on the guitar, so you don't chnage your pitch while playing accidentally.
All in all, a great piece of work. Cheers to Nyko!
Dissapointing April 23, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
After much anticipation and shipping date push backs on the pre-order, I finally received mine. I was expecting the quality to be similar to the Harmonix guitar. It's not even close. It looks and feels very much more cheaply made in comparison. Also disappointing for me being a lefty is the inability to move the strap for left-handed play. The only thing this controller has going for it is that it works on both games. I think I'll sell it on ebay in a couple months and go ahead and get another Harmonix controller.
Definitely Recommend April 22, 2008 I just got mine today. Both games work flawlessly. The only problem i have is that when it hangs its a little unbalanced. You have to hold the neck up to keep it straight. Nothing you cant get used to though. I love it and recommend it highly.
The Click Is Back! April 21, 2008 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
For those who went from Guitar Hero then back to Rock Band you'll welcome back the click of the strum bar. But the benefits just begin there. You can now play either wireless or wired, and if you place rechargeable batteries in the guitar you can charge it while playing using the included wire.
Switching between Rock Band and Guitar Hero is pretty easy. Move the switch on the red box (the one pictured in the photo) to Guitar Hero, press and hold the Nyko button on the guitar until the box and the guitar sync up, and voila, you're good to go. Same with Rock Band.
The ONLY complaint I have is the buttons on the neck are very small (and no lower set of buttons). They are more akin to the Guitar Hero guitar, but I did appreciate the neck of the original Rock Band guitar. With everything else this guitar has going for it, it's a small adjustment that is easily made.
Bi-Directional Strum Bar Issue April 20, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've played the Front MAN Guitar for a few days now and am ready to say something. I'm having a BIG problem with the Bi-Directional Strum Bar. It seems that when I strum the bar like I do on the Les-Paul, the Front-Man sends a double click or something like that... The song gives me the note, but right after that, it like, takes it away as if I strummed the bar again (weird) and is very annoying! At first, I just knew it was me, but after troubleshooting I found that it is positively the Strum bar.
I come to this conclusion after going through a menu screen (from top to bottom) by performing a strum, as if I were strumming a note in a game screen and seeing that the highlighted option would move down and then immediately pop back up. I can play a song and get a fair score by pushing the strum bar down instead of plucking or strumming it BUT, this is not the way it should be, when the notes start coming fast one can not play without strumming.
Other than that issue, I find that the Front-Man an ok Guitar, I like the response of the fret buttons and the whammy bar, the size and general feel of the guitar...
