Although I'm STILL waiting for Final Fantasy XIII, this system is awesom. Yes, a little expensive, but worth every penny. Not only are the games good, but the internet browser is a great feature and it's faster than my home computer. Also, the ability to download shows, movies, and games is a great touch. I download Family Guy episodes as well as sci-fi stuff like Firefly. I could spend hours on this thing and not even notice time flying by. I would like to see more role-playing games but I'm sure with time, the library will expand...just like the PS2. The other big plus? This 60gb version plays all every PS2 game I've tried on it, so I'm not missing out on the big PS2 library of games. If you can dish out the dough, I'd recommend this system.

When we decided to upgrade our PS2 we asked the "experts" at local game stores about our upgrade choices. We were told that the PS3 40G was good but would not play PS2 games. The PS3 80G would play some of the PS2 games but not all. Then we were told about the PS3 60G which is no longer available... discontinued apparently because it WILL play both PS2 and PS3 games. Being a faithful Amazon customer I wasn't going to believe the availability till I checked Amazon. Amazon can always be counted on to have the hard to find items I am looking for.
Sure enough, Amazon offered the PS3 60G through its "Sellers" market. It is expensive, more expensive than the 40 or 80G. But with all the PS2 games that we have it would be majorly stupid to buy something that wouldn't play our games AND give us access to all the PS3 games. It was a no brainer for us. Sure it cost more but after adding up the cost of all the PS2 games that would have to be sold or given away it was well worth the price. The PS3 60G is the way to go. My children LOVE it!!!!!!!
If you want to keep your PS2 games and play PS3 games buy a PS3 60G. The price will be high but they are the only PS3 that will play ALL of the PS2 games straight out of the box. I am glad that when we needed one, we were lucky enough to find honest "experts" who even mentioned the PS3 60G, even though it is discontinued.
My advice is that if you want or need a PS3 the 60G is the most versatile. Get it while it is available.
I am also grateful that Amazon can always be counted on to have what I need. Thank you Amazon!

I personally believe that for those of us who managed to score the 60 gig PS3, we are very lucky to have an incredible piece of hardware. I got this version within its opening year and this system has never failed me since. Its been running like a champion and is totally compatible with all my PS2 games that i own, WIFI connectivity is there, wired connectivity is there....but the only thing missing are the DualShock 3 controllers. Considered that you can get one with the new 80gig but i highly suggest to people to spend their money on the 60 gig, get urself a dualshock 3 controller and ur way better off this way.
Try finding this version for cheaper and u end up with a great addition to your entertainment system. Im just hoping these guys arent trying to create a PS4 yet because the current gen systems still have alot more power that can be squeezed out of them......
1 suggestion...microsoft should switch to a blu-ray player on their XBOX 360's. I think its about time all the mediums switched over to it so 360 users can start enjoying games of high def quality also........DONT MURDER ME FOR THIS JUST SPREADING FAIRNESS.

Well I love my Playstation 3 but the only problem is the games for it because they come out months after they are released on another console but what makes up for they delay in the games release is the games quality of the high definition because the PS3 is really just a console with they power of a high quality computer. What will help the PS3 would be the games that are planned for it because some are titles only for the PS3 such as haze and Metal Gear Solid 4 which are both great games that are only for the PS3.

I've had my PS3 for a year now, and I have to say that while the price is still pretty high, this console finally seems to be coming into its own. Initial PS3 games that I'd played weren't particularly stunning, but now the titles are starting to justify the hardware.
If I had to compare the PS3 to the XBox 360, I'd say the beauty of it is that it doesn't brick itself with a Red Ring of Death. If I had to compare it to the Wii, I'd point out that it's far more of a media entertainment device. And that above all, Sony's strict adherence to backwards compatibility has given it a strong advantage: I can play Playstation 1 and 2 titles with ease and have yet to have one fail to work. This means you still have access to a massive library of titles, and I find myself playing PS2 and PS1 games as much as the few I have for the PS3.
The only bad things I've encountered so far are that the Sixaxis controller's "tilt" functionality (slightly similar to the Wii's ability to physically move the controller in the air to play a game) is very shaky: it's difficult to control. Also, the fans on the PS3 are extremely loud, and run constantly: even playing a movie will create the roar of the unit trying to keep itself cool. I keep my PS3 away from dust and clean it regularly, but it still seems to need to run loud.
