ADDICTIVE! February 8, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
BOTTOM LINE:
My first foray into RPGs or Massive Players whatever...and I don't think I can go back to regular platform games! This is way too much fun and way too addictive. My wife and I have to split our time without getting into a fight over playing our respective game! She's a Redguard Warrior Mage, I'm a Wood Elf Mage Thief. It's great!
PROS: Unbeleivable how you can modify your character! Graphics are flawlessly gorgeous Sheer scope/size is off the charts Totally free roaming Over 20 skills to develop Easy to understand but challenging enuff to stay interesting AI is ridiculous-ly realistic Excellent storyline
CONS: None really.
My wife insists that the characters should be able to form relationships, a'la 'The Sims'. LOL
Prepare to spend a full year playing this game. You've been warned!
Hard to beat January 30, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this game on the word of a friend that i wouldn't be able to put it down. I started off slow but within two days I couldn't stop playing. From being a gladiator to a pickpocket this game has it all. If you are looking for a way to escape the everyday then look no further. Oblivion will remove you from the ordinary and place you in to a world so realistic you won't want to return.
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a Winner! January 29, 2008 I have only had this game for a few days but can't stop playing it. The graphics are really good once you get outside in daylight (reminds me of Uncharted) and the gameplay is so immersive you play the game for hours before you realize how long you have been working on a quest. It seems like the Quest's and side quest's go on forever and I can't see myself getting bored of this game any time soon. The sheer size of the maps are gigantic and there are so many hidden things to find. If you are looking for a great game on the PS3 look no further. A++
Game of the Year January 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is easily the game of the year even with the minor flaws being described in the reviews, The ability to pick and choose objectives or just roam freely is a true advancement. Overall the graphics, beasts and characters are all superior. I would agree that between level 1 and 5 there are minor issues with the quests and how they are finished, however, this really does not take away from the game overall. I have yet to play the "perfect game" I think this game comes very close, get it, enjoy it and PLAY IT!!!
Grand Medieval Theft Auto January 25, 2008 If you like RPGs and sandbox style games like Grand Theft Auto, then you are in luck my friend. This a game that you can rush through the main quest and forget to literally stop and pick the flowers along the way. Or spend countless hours just wandering the countryside. Oblivion's story is standard "you save the world from ancient evil" and is forgetable. But you will hardly notice that during the countless side quests which will distract from remembering that. The one thing Oblivion does differently than other RPGs is a skills based leveling system. You don't simply kill monsters for experience points. Nor to monsters drop gold like some fleshy slot machine. Nope. You gain levels by using your character's skill set. If you do not like any of the pre-made classes, then make your own. The game even lets you try out a class for a little while before asking you to commit to one. Now for those looking to save some money and buy the basic version of Oblivion without all of the expansion packs included, I have a one thing to say... DON'T! If you like this game's slow yet rewarding pace, then all you will wind up doing is just buying and downloading the EPs anyway. So why not just get it all in one whack? Having said that there are some downsides to this game. Most notably is the use of old game mechanics. You often face a loading screen when you move through a door. The voice acting is very much recycled by a hand full of actors. Also in today's age where seamless loading is the standard... Seeing "loading area..." messages every few hundred feet is a little distracting. Other than that, just be forewarned that you will lose a lot of sleep to this game. PLEASE NOTE: Only the XBox 360 and PC version have access to extra downloadable content. No such love for PS3 owners.
