5 out of 5 stars Blown away by this system   August 27, 2007

Let me start by saying that I own 2 Wiis and love that system. I bought the 360 after the price drop and because it has HDMI and an extra heat sink. Plus with the 3 year warranty there really is very little risk. I ordered it from Amazon Prime for overnight on Friday (1.99) and it came by noon on Friday.

I have now played it over 20 hours and am blown away by the system. I did not even buy a game, yet spent hours playing some of the literally 99 demos they offer of full 360 games (such as Bioshock and Madden 08). Plus I played many other demos for the games in Live Arcade (every arcade game has a demo). I loved Geometry Wars and bought it for 5 bucks. I also downloaded a HD version of 300 (4.50) and an episode of Star Trek (2.00). I have never had so much fun with a system before without even buying a game.

As for the system, it works perfectly and the fan makes virtually no sound. I was agonized over whether to buy now or wait for the 65nm chip and am so glad I took the plunge. The warranty makes it easy. I cannot imagine not having this system.

5 out of 5 stars Love my Xbox 360   August 26, 2007

1) It has reinvigorated my love of games, and gives me a compelling reason to play them (Achievements track progress through games like nothing else)

2) Most well designed system, best balance of awesome graphics and low price.

3) Xbox Live Arcade is awesome, downloading demos and trailers is also great.

4) The best games, BioShock is mind blowingly good...I thought I was watching CG at first.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed Because I waited   August 25, 2007

I waited for the new premiums to come out. I knew this was the latest iteration based on the HDMI port but it still overheats, freezes, and sounds like an air conditioner. This week old unit is already freezing during Bioshock, when playing more than 2 hours.

Yes, it was laid horizontal with proper ventilation, the power supply was also laid on cold tile floors without anything else near it. The power supply made strange noises as well. I tried removing the hard drive and running it, still freezes. The only way it won't freeze is if I stop using it all together to let it cool down. I have dealt with laptops that got really hot, but they never froze or stopped working.

I am disappointed because there is a ton of good content for this unit and I cannot enjoy it. Perhaps I got a lemon, but I don't know, I consider an xbox a slim client computer but I have never seen a slim client computer crank and make crazy noises and become useless after 2 hours of heavy use. Despite its shortcomings, I want to own this product because of the content available for it.

4 out of 5 stars Don't believe the hype.   August 25, 2007

I will try to make my review as unbiased as possible. I own all three systems, Wii, 360, PS3. The 360 is by far the best system if you enjoy playing current generation games.

The Wii is fun for a while, and enjoyable when you have company over. Its an interesting toy that people unfamiliar with games enjoy playing around with. Truth is, I wouldn't miss it, but kids, non-gamers, and first time users, have fun with the system so its worth having.

The PS3 makes for a nice Blu-Ray player, if you buy the remote. It also collects dust really well. Not much else going for this system. In typical Sony fashion they overpromised, overcharged, underdelivered. Their Sony name is rapidly being destroyed. Similar to US car manufacturers in the 70's and 80's. Sony believes they know best and insist they can do no wrong. Well guess what, your PS3 is a disgrace to the Playstation name. Hope for better with the PS4.

360 is simply the best system out currently for the current generation games. I've been extremely impressed with games like Gears of War, Bioshock, Rainbow 6, Forza, and quite a few more. I believe the reliability issues are being created into a media frenzy to sell stories and by Sony fans to scare people away from the system. There are some issues with reliability, but Microsoft has set aside substantial funds to cover for repairs. Most of the scare tactics are being used by Sony fans or people with unnatural hate towards Microsoft in order to prevent sales of the system. Don't believe all these scare tactics, and don't cheat yourself out of the best gaming console ever made.

5 out of 5 stars PS3 owner who loves his 360 too!   August 24, 2007

I'm having a lot of fun with the HDMI 360. I love both the PS3 and the 360. I wouldn't want to be without either one. Even my PS3 overheats and gets buggy in performance if I don't allow for enough ventilation. I moved my Sony DVD player completely away from the PS3 so that the PS3 can breathe properly. I do the same for the 360. These are high powered electronics and I keep the A/C consistently on to keep the room cool as you would keep cool a room of computers. Luckily, the Chicago winter will last months on end and I won't have to worry about insufficient cooling then!
