Best Console Ever! January 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is by far the best, most beautifull, powerful and silent running console I have ever owned. The graphics are awesome when connected to my HDTV and the system just feels allround powerful.I Am just now building up my game Library and can't wait for the new releases in the next few months!!! This system with all the added on features such as Blu-ray player and WIFI is worth the cost, don't listen to the detractors, get the PS3!!! You own't regret it.
The perfect choice January 1, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I received my console on december 20th, when i opened i realized it came with NO USB CABLE!, yes! no usb cable!. So i called SONY, but couldn't talk with tecnnical support because it was too late. So i used my own usb cable and forget about that sony missing (I'm not calling back again). The console works GREAT, the picture is sharp and vivid. Perfect choice to use it together with my LCD sony television even when mine is 720p. The games load pretty fast, and the battery life is awesome! i have played almost 10 days and i haven't had to recharge it yet. The movie it came with is not the best they could put into, but blu -ray movies are the most incredible resolution i have ever seen! very fast loading and you have to check the video format. So u have for 399 the best 2007 console, blu ray player, hard disk, wi fi, and so much more. Hope you enjoy it too. Greetings from Venezuela to all PS3 fans.
Excellent system January 1, 2008 17 out of 21 found this review helpful
Like many people, I bought this primarily for Bluray playback, but have found myself buying games too. The Bluray features are excellent, and we've had a blast watching "300" and "Spider-Man 3". It also makes our standard def DVD's look great by upconverting them.
I did not consider myself a console gamer, but this system is changing my mind. We love Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Ratchet & Clank. Both games are extremely well done and thoroughly addictive. The supposed "lack of games" really doesn't bother me, because these two will probably keep me engaged for many months.
The main issue I have with the system is the lack of an IR port, like many other reviewers. I bought the Blu-Wave remote to compensate for this and get an IR port so I could tune my Harmony remote. I'm still in the process of getting all that set up, and the irritation factor causes me to ding the system a couple stars. Those who aren't picky about how many remotes they have laying around (last count, 7) won't be as upset by this omission.
Great system but... December 31, 2007 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
My 16 year old was having a great time with his new system! Especially Call of Duty 4 - he says it is one of the best games he has played in a long time. But, this morning his 40GB PS3 stopped reading discs. He has had it less than a week and it will no longer read ANY discs. It was never dropped, was well ventilated and never overheated. Sony is sending us a new system, but it will take 3-5 business days to get the shipping materials, 3-5 business days to ship it back and then they said another 10-14 business days to ship a new one after they recieve his. I am extremely disappointed in the timeframe as he soooo wants to play it. I have also read that Microsoft customer support has been extremely quick in shipping systems to people. I have read numerous times that owners have received new systems before their old ones were even shipped back. My eldest son received an Xbox 360 Elite and has not had any problems - yet. Hopefully this is just an odd occurence with this PS3 system. We have had many other PS systems that have always worked well. Needless to say it is going to be a long month for my son!
Playstation 3 - Review December 27, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is a playstation 3 (40Gb) review - 5 stars
1. a HD video player - and all my old DVDs look better 2. a music player - solid system sound 3. a HD gaming player - love the wireless controls 4. a linux desktop - loaded Ubuntu 7.10 with Fedora 8 next 5. a 1080p internet browser - enlarges for my 80 year old mother.
All 5 for the price of a cheap PC or an expensive DVD player.
Bought this at the last minute for the kids to play with on Christmas day. Bought Planet Earth, Motor Storm and Rachet & Clank.
I am not a gamer but I and everyone had a lot of fun with Motor Storm, but the kids who like shooting games really enjoyed Rachet & Clank. During dinner - with no sound - I ran Planet Earth on our 42 inch 1080p plasma - and no one could believe the clearity and detail - like we were eagles (angels?) flying over our spectacular earth.
Loaded linux Ubuntu/PS3 in a manner of minutes. Like the PS3 its applications are set up for 1080i/p so when an application is run you do not need to squint the eyes. For example the cards on the blackjack game are about 5" inches tall on the 42 inch 1080p.
If something is better than this Blue-Ray device - it could not look like real life - because this looks like real life on the 1080p.
Oh, yeah:
6. And the thing sets up in minutes.
