5 out of 5 stars Outstanding piece of hardware   December 21, 2007

I have been completely blown away by this system. I received it 2 days ago and I have been unable to stop using it since. It looks good, is reliable, is quiet and has outstanding functionality. I use wi-fi internet with it and a wireless keyboard when I need to type for long periods of time. It has a built in internet browser as well as many other useful features. The game lineup is currently about par but there are many outstanding games coming out for the next 12 months. Definitely worth a buy if you want a next-generation console. Online is also free versus the 8$/month charge on the Xbox360.

5 out of 5 stars I love this   December 21, 2007

I'm no gamer, bought this only for the Blue Ray and other media player capabilities. I use this very frequently for photo slide show and playing MP3s from my desktop. This is well worth the $399 price tag. Works flawlessly, and I do not have any 'fan noise' issues reported elsewhere.

UPDATE 10/03/2008: The optical drive failed(does not recognize any optical media) after the 2.1 firmware update. I'm getting a replacement.

5 out of 5 stars An incredible system (from an xbox owner)   December 20, 2007

First let me say that my previous console system is an xbox (the original one). I've never owned another playstation before this one... so i'm not a sony fanboy. I actually argues against the PS3 with a friend for months because I was simply not a fan of Sony products and figures this was just another over-priced, under impressive peice of.... well, you get what I mean.

The Playstation 3 (PS3), while more expesive than other consoles is actually the best value of them all... let me explain.

INTENET ACCESS:
The PS3 includes a built-in wifi adapter. For the Wii and the XBox 360 you must purchase a wifi adapter as an add-on. Online gaming via the Playstation Network (PSN) is included with the PS3 for free. With the XBox you must purchase a subscription to the xbox live service. I think the Wii also includes free access, but I'm not certain of that.

HIGH DEFINITION VIDEOS:
The PS3 includes a built in blue-ray disc player (stand-alone blue-ray players *start* at about $300 for the cheapest models). The xbox 360 does have HD-DVD available as an addon, but that's going to cost you another $200. Th Wii does not have an option for High-Definition movies.

STREAMING MEDIA:
I'm not too familiar with the abilities of the 360 to stream media, I think the 360 and PS3 are actually fairly similar on this point.

GAMING:
This is where you're going to get into varying opinions... I'm not going to get too much into this except to say that all 3 new consoles have their strengths and weaknesses... but they're all great game machines... so for me, the gaming decision came down to the systems that had the type of games I like to play (PS3 and 360) and the TOTAL cost of the system. That pointed me directly to the PS3.

I hope this helps someone and thanks for reading.
