5 out of 5 stars great system   November 14, 2007

I couldn't help but write another review...simply because of some false information some reviewers are saying...All the ps3 systems run very quiet you will have to listen really close to hear the 20 40 and 60 gig...i have a 20 gig that i purchased on launch and i have a 40 gig that i purchased a few months ago for my spare room....NO difference...Any of the Ps3 systems are a great purchase!! With all the A titles coming out your money is well spent...call of duty 4 rachet and clank are amazing...also haze blacksite and then next year killzone 4 mgs...the list of top titles are coming quick...

5 out of 5 stars Great machine - poor buying experience from amazon   November 14, 2007

Ok,

I sold my Wii to get this and do not regret it for a second. The PS3 is great, no complaints yet. It even looks good via component cables on my Standard Definition TV. I plan to get a 22" LCD with HDMI soon, so the visual aspect will just get even better.

Took amazon 8 days to get it to me. Placed my order on 10/31/07 it did not ship until 11/5. Apparently there was an issue with the AMAZON fullfilment system and it didn't ship as it should have. hurray! I even paid for standard shipping! To be fair, amazon did give me some credit for shipping once I sent 3 emails to their customer service dept.

Other than that, I am happy with my purchase and if you want a true next gen system, one that was designed to last more than the standard 5 year cycle? Get the PS3.

5 out of 5 stars The ONLY PS3 would run QUIET enough for movie viewing!   November 12, 2007

All the news I read said 60GB was the only way to go if you wanted a PS3 with backward compatibility. Therefore, I rush into nearest BestBuy to get a 60GB when I saw online news said 60GB was sold out in most of retail stores on 11/02/2007.

I was not very happy when I realized my new PS3 was running HOT and LOUD, believe me it was very LOUD. I exchanged it for another 60GB next day. This one was a little better, IMO; however, it was still running HOT and LOUD. I went to Target, and got another 60GB. This one was not any better. I told myself this had to be a design flaw but I would give it for another try. Therefore, I returned it and bought another 60GB from Target again. Four out of four, they were all running HOT and LOUD. I gave up at this point, and returned the last one purchased from Target. At this point I almost wanted to learn to live with the noise since I enjoyed the Blu-ray so much and had some fun playing those demo games.

I went online and did some more research. I found 40GB should consume a lot less energy than 60GB and 80GB. IMO Energy = Heat; therefore, I was in BestBuy again on 11/10/2007 with my family and bought a 40GB. Installed it in the evening, watched a regular SD DVD and left it on over night for downloading. WOW, it ran much quieter and it was even running quieter than my HR20-100 (a DIRECTV HD DVR). Off course, I return the last 60GB I had the following day.

My decision metrics:

1. Can I watch movies with the PS3 running so LOUD?
NO WAY!

2. How important is the backward compatibility to me?
I can keep my PS2 connected to TV, still; however, I should move on and focus on PS3 ONLY for game playing.

3. Do I need two more USB ports and memory card slots?
Not such a big deal.

4. Is 40GB big enough?
I DON'T care.

I would buy another PS3 when it starts using 65nm processor rather than the current 90nm in the near future. Now 40GB is the only way to go IMO. I hope my journey to a 'QUIET' PS3 can help you make your decision on your future purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Get the 60 GiG version!   November 11, 2007

Pretty good system for the price, but if you can find the 60gig version w/ the emotion engine get that one instead. Latest firmware allows you to smooth and upscale your original PS2 games on the PS3! Play them in 1080P!

5 out of 5 stars 40GB version worth every penny   November 11, 2007

I am a Nintendo fanboy and own a Wii, and thought nothing could top it. The PS3 was too expensive for my blood upon release, but there are a number of exclusive titles on the PS3 that I wanted. With the release of the much cheaper 40gb version, I couldn't resist and bought one from Amazon along with "Lair". I was blown away by the PS3's performance, sound, and graphical quality.

The PS3 box is a little bulky, but impressive looking. Wires are tidy in the back of my entertainment center; no large power box like the 360. The system produces much more heat than the Wii, but with adequate ventilation there shouldn't be an issue.

While the 40 gig version is not compatible with PS2 titles, it can play PS1 games without a hitch I've found. The PS3 is a Blue Ray disk player as well, so for those of you with HDTV's, you'll get to watch movies in true HD.

Even with only one game, I find the PS3 worth the buy. I'm looking forward to the numerous exclusives coming to the system. The Wii is less expensive, but a very different experience from the typical analog control and button mashing. The PS3 incorporates motion control (though not to the extent of the Wii), and standard control, making a very enjoyable and dynamic playing experience.
