This is well worth the money! I have a 720p HDTV, so I had to buy an HDMI cable also. The Blu-ray Player is awesome! If you're looking around at game consoles and are considering a PS3, get this one (and the HDMI cable I mentioned before, if you have an HDTV (you don't need an HDTV to play Playstation 3). It has a 40GB hard drive so you don't need a memory card, and most movie studios are releasing Blu-ray Disc.
I bought the following items to go with my Playstation 3:

- HDMI Cable 2M (6 Feet)
- Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote
- Grand Theft Auto IV Special Edition (1st PS3 game)

I purchased the Playstation 3 primarily as a replacement for my HD-DVD player. I already owned an Xbox 360, but there was no question that the PS3 was a great deal when you look at buying a Bluray player. It's like buying a DVD player and getting a gaming system for free! So, being a gamer I also bought a few used games to try out as well. I have been very happy with the system, and I do like some of the features Sony has built in such as the wireless connectivity right out of the box. I went ahead and updated the system to the newest firmware as soon as it was hooked up. That is a HUGE benefit for any device, but especially a Bluray Player since they will continue to add features, etc... I was never a "fanboy" of the 360, but I had owned an original Xbox (no issues for me!) and then bought an Xbox 360 (RROD on the first one - replaced free). I have noticed now that I am buying new games on the PS3 platform instead of the 360. I am now thinking that since most games come out on both systems, I can get rid of my 360 and save some space and make few hundred dollars as well. So, I have found the Playstation3 makes me happy as both a movie buff and a gamer, and I can't ask for much more than, so if you are looking for a bluray player, the PS3 is a great buy, and if you are looking for a gaming system, the PS3 is a great buy. I think that about sums it up :-)

Because I have owned both a PS3 and an Xbox 360, this review will mainly focus on those two systems. The Wii is somewhat in its own category as it targets an entirely different audience.
GRAPHICS:
The PS3 is obviously a powerful graphics machine, but the 360 seems to do just as well in this category despite its less powerful hardware. I don't see a noticeable difference even on a HDTV, especially now that both systems come with HDMI.
HARDWARE & RELIABILITY:
The PS3 definitely wins here. The 360 is notorious for its hardware failures, although the new version is much improved. Despite this, nothing can compete with Sony's hardware.
VALUE:
The PS3 wins on this as well. As of writing this, the PS3 40 GB is $399 and the Xbox 360 20 GB is $299. For $100 more, you get a larger hard drive, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a Blu-ray player.
BLU-RAY:
The PS3 does have Blu-ray, which has won the format war with HD DVD. However, I don't think disc media is going to be around much longer anyway. I believe the real future in high-definition video is larger hard drives and the ability to download movies and videos directly to your console, which the 360 seems to be focusing on. It is worth noting that Netflix is going to make streaming videos available on the 360 in the fall of 2008.
MEDIA MANAGEMENT:
I think both systems are equally well-equipped. I don't consider Blu-ray to be a huge selling point because I don't believe it has as much of a future as online video streaming and downloading. Considering that both systems' hard drives are expandable, there are endless possibilities with this.
GAMES:
This is one area where the PS3 is lacking. Yes, there are plenty of good games on the PS3, but few of them are exclusives. I wasn't particularly impressed with Metal Gear Solid 4. The 360 does have some excellent exclusives and definitely is the winner in the games category.
CONTROLLER:
The 360 controller is quite a bit more ergonomic than the PS3 controller. The PS3 controller's triggers are not positioned as well for use with the index fingers, and the two analog sticks are too close together for people with large hands.
ONLINE PLAY:
The PS3's online service cannot compare with Xbox Live. However, it is free, so it is better for those who are not as focused on online gameplay.
OVERALL:
Yes, the PS3 is a great system and a great value, but all things considered, I like my 360 better. The games are more fun, the online experience is unmatched, and the controller design is great. I believe Sony focused a little too much on the PS3's capabilities and not quite enough on the overall gaming experience.

WOW! As a PC gamer my response to this PS3 is "It's Awesome!" I like how it can stand up like a tower and also be placed flat during game play (did I mention that it looks great with that shiny black finish?); also love the buttonless touch for on/off and eject functions on the console. . LOVE the BLURAY quality; the 1080p is easy to love, once you play 1080 you will find yourself unsatisfied with anything less--it will spoil you, so be careful! The game play is silky smooth--it's like playing on a super-fast personal computer with the best of cutting edge graphix and not having to wait for the disk drive to engage. I RECOMMEND THE PS3 TO ANY PC GAME LOVER! The only thing is that it comes with one controller, and it's an awesome one at that!! It's a wireless-capable, tilt-sensitive "Sixaxis" Sony controller-for those of you who are used to playing with the keyboard, comfort and familiarity will come in time and experience--you've gotta try the racing games! I plan on buying a second Sixaxis for the 2 player games--LOVE the wireless controller! Overall rating, 10 out of 10!

My PS3 was bought in November 07, only used for blu-ray movies a few of times, This one frozed and quit playing while watching a Blu-ray movie. Afterwards, it would not recognize any discs (games, DVDs, Blu-rays). They have a serius problem with the blu ray drive...
