Boom Blox is fun for the whole family! June 21, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm not going to go into too many details, other than Spielberg has nailed how fun it is to stack and destroy piles of blocks, and you never have to clean up the mess! The throwing mechanics are perfect, and the game does a fantastic job of utilizing the Havok physics engine, so everything you see feels genuine.
On top of the ability to topple blocks or optionally pulling them down with a hand, the game also throws in a few twists that you wouldn't be able to do in the real world. Some blocks, when struck, will disappear entirely, others will explode on contact with a sublimely satisfying chaotic response to follow. Oh yeah, many of us lack the ability to throw a sixteen pound bowling ball overhand with any sense of force, too, so this game can kind of make you feel like Superman in that regard.
There are tons of play modes and pre-set puzzles, but the fun never really ends when you tap into the level creator. It is here you can alter any pre-set puzzle as you see fit (throw in some explosives- they're always a good solution to a frustrating puzzle!) OR you can create your own twisted puzzles from scratch. You can even share them online with your friends.
Oh, and did I mention it becomes even more fun when you've got three additional people to share it with? The multiplayer aspect of the game is where it truly shines. Once you've shown them the simple mechanics of the game, the hours following will whiz right on by! It would still be a game worth recommending if multiplayer was the only way it could be played!
Did I mention this game was fun? Pick up Boom Blox; its a fantastic game with enough intuitive play that anybody from 3 to 103 can play, and it has enough of a challenge (going for all gold medals in the single player modes will keep you busy for weeks, if not months) that the hardcore gamers out there will find plenty to enjoy!
Fun fo all ages June 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I never, EVER write reviews for the many things I've purchased at Amazon, but I just HAD to post one about Boom Blox. My 4-year old son, 8-year old niece, me (35) and my 56 year-old mom all got sucked into this game!!! There's something for everyone--throwing, jenga-type block grabbing, shooting, attacking....no frustrating techniques required here, it's just all about fun! I purchased this game based on all the reviews on here, and I want to thank everyone because I am beyond thrilled with this purchase! The only con is my hopeless addiction!!! Get this one--you WILL NOT be disappointed!!!!
Outstanding Game June 14, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
One of the best Wii games we have, as much fun as Mario Party 8. Would definitely recommend to our friends.
I was Skeptical at First... June 14, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
but then I rented this and LOVED it. I didn't think this kind of game could be worth $50, but I now think it is. If you aren't sure, rent it and you will then have an urge to buy it.
My wife was watching us play and decided to give it a try, she got distracted from the real game to just spend the time hitting the animals with the tennis ball. It was hilarious.
The actual game is inventive and fun for all skill levels. It's fun in party mode and by yourself.
On a side note, I haven't found any of the levels that look like those in the pictures above, so I assume they need to be unlocked. I really hope those aren't just promo photos and they aren't really in the game. But I have only been playing for a few hours.
Again, rent it if your skeptical, you won't regret it.
Fun, but... June 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The game is great and we've had a lot of fun playing it. The only concern I have is that the control seems to jump all over the screen. When we play other games the control is steady and moves where we want but with Boom Blox it has a tendency to fly all over the screen making game play much more difficult. I don't know why that happens or how to correct it, but it seems to be the game and not the wii.
