5 out of 5 stars I like it...   November 22, 2008
Been collecting items for my PS3 to which I've had about 3 months or so now, I ordered this along with the BR PS3 Remote (Sony) and do not regret it al all. It works as stated, and does a fine job of it. I currently have it connected via a USB hub along next to controllers, a BT Headset (got it free with SOCOM prior to it's seperate release) and while I can choose to control audio from it or the earpiece it works well. The imagery/resolution is good, the response time also is excellent. People I know who hardly, if at all play computer/console games like this product..I purchased several DLCs from the PS-Store for it and they are well, groovey. Tori-Emaki is great! Me Mom enjoys her Tai-Chi/Yoga classes and when I showed her this cam, she thought it looked nice and remarked at how fast in real time it was. Then I loaded up Tori and she LOVED it..How fun this was just relaxing and motioning the birds in 3D with even just the slight of motion, heck even I can move them around with my feet! Also liking Aquatopia (the only 2 non-true game titles I have for the PS3-Eye so far). It does have very quick response time..however I have seen it blur a bit, it does quickly return to normal. I have Never been a web-cam person, nor I expect to be one, but the motion-sensing of this item makes it well worth the price. For games like Burnout: Paradise etc it works great. I am looking towards more support for this little overlooked gem (Hey there LittleBigPlanet!!!). And yes, it DOES tilt L-R and Up & Down, with a zoom twist over the lense aswell. I like it, was worth the price, but my only concern is it's game support in the future. I Hope it does what is happening to the PS3 now, getting more support, realizing it is a superior piece of hardware to it's competition. I am no "fanboy" and hate those idiotic terms, but after years (last console owned was a used SNES) I was growing a bit tired with the PC...so with a little sum of cash I obtained, I picked up a PS3-80GB and moded it to a 320GB - SATA/3 drive. I love it..have No regreats on the hugely gathering pile of PS3 games I'm gathering (and having a blast with it). I can recommend this item, if just for gameing/fooling around or using as a true web-cam..as it does a fine job. As I mentioned in my review of the PS3 Blu-Ray Remote, this item feels light weight but sturdily made. I've had web-cams (USB) fall apart from well known companies aswell for the PC, and this one just feels right. It works well in conjunction with the PS3 BT Headset, no problems there. Just pick which Audio device to use in the XMB/GUI. I default my audio to the headset, but when it's not in use and we wanna goof off infront of the webcam, we use it's own mic (to which is no slouch either). I like it, friends and family like it... no complaints!!! I mentioned LBP because in the tutorial it states if you have a PS3 Eye, you can use it to add pictures, change grfx around etc with one...and YES it does work well. Grab one and try it out, the co$t went down since my purchase-but no regreats. Low down, fun toy that does what it's supposed to do, and does it well... Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Great Buy!   November 1, 2008
If you love video capture devices and you have a PS3, this is the product for you. For games like LittleBigPlanet and Burnout Paradise, the PS Eye makes it much more fun and enjoyable, especially since it is $10 cheaper here than anywhere else! I highly recommend this product, but until more games utilize this product, my review stands at a 4/5.

5 out of 5 stars We didn't know we wanted it until...   October 29, 2008
We have LittleBigPlanet on order and my expectation is that we will be able to use the Eye to create our own levels.

We didn't know we wanted it until we bought a copy of Eye of Judgment which had the Eye included (I believe that this is no longer the case today). It's been almost a year since an Eye was attached to our PS3 and... it stayed attached and the PS3 is a better, more interesting console because of it.

Those were the early PS3 days and applications were scarce but, slowly, the PSN store began to offer little, free or inexpensive but fun 'Eye' games that were relying on the Eye as an input device - interpreting hands or body movements. For $2 or $3 the kids were able to play with the fish in an aquarium, help little cute creatures escape little but evil creatures by waving the bad ones away or bouncing the cute ones out of danger, navigate fantastic landscapes. Other, more 'serious' apps followed and the kids can now make and edit their own videos and experiment with special effects.

Overall, the quality of the picture is decent. Our 'media room' is not the brightest place in the world and yet the kids can make videos and have fun without additional bright lights. A stereo microphone is part of the camera body and, by simply having the Eye attached to the PS3 via a USB wire we are using it to chat with whomever happens to be at the other side of an online game.

The Eye (with proper software) allows the following on a PS3:
- made and edit videos
- chat/video chat
- interpret/recognize patterns (Eye of Judgement)
- interpret and recognize gestures or body movements
- capture 'real world' objects and then insert them into your own game

If you are buying this for video conferencing or video chats, please check other reviews because I haven't tried it for anything 'serious' yet.

4 out of 5 stars Fun for the kids   October 27, 2008
Bought the eye to supplement my PS3 games for kids. Specifically looking for something my 6 and 2 year old would enjoy.

The camera works nicely with several free-mini apps that can be downloaded from the PS store, like Aquarium and (some artsy thing) that reads the kids interactions. For example, in the aquarium, you can feed the fish by wiggling your hands 'above' the tank.

3 out of 5 stars Fun accessory for PS3   October 14, 2008
The PS3 Eye is a great addition to the PS3 for games that have webcam integration. The PS3 Eye adds more interactivity and brings a new value to online play. In Burnout Paradise, for example, every time you are beaten by a rival it snaps a photo of your reaction and sends it to the other players' screens, and vice versa. This adds a fun way to play with your friends.
