4 out of 5 stars You Will Like This Game!!   March 9, 2008

With a fantastic first go around, a disappointing second outing and a much to difficult for it's own good third installment Devil May Cry returns for a fourth trip around the bend! Is this triumphant comeback worth your time and coin you may ask? Well the answer to that is a resounding YES! First off this is a new beginning of sorts for the story line which could be a welcome change for seasoned devil hunters but also a good starting point if your new to the series. You begin the adventure as newcomer protagonist Nero who brings with him some sick abilities mainly in the form of the devil bringer, which resonates in his right arm. Nero uses the devil bringer in a variety of ways. He can grab enemies, toss them in the air, slam them to the ground and in some cases pull himself closer to them. He also uses the devil bringer to reach inaccessible areas in various levels.

Veterans of the series should fear not because it wouldn't be a DMC game without an appearance to series protagonist Dante. In later levels you get to control Dante and he definitely retains his devil may care swagger plus you now have the ability to switch Dante's fighting styles on the fly. This will allow you to rack up some huge combos and look pretty pimp while doing it. While Nero and Dante may shop at the same store and visit the same hair stylist their styles are truly their own which in part makes Nero a welcome breath of fresh air to a series, which has been a little stale of late.

Devil May Cry 4 is a serviceable introduction of the series to the next gen fray but compared to other games it's not necessarily a stellar one. It does up the ante in the visuals department but the overall levels are pretty much what you have seen before. They are pretty expansive and beautifully rendered but at times you will find yourself running for through an area for a while before encountering an enemy. The boss battles are pretty challenging but where Capcom drops the ball a little is in the rehashing of bosses (you will see what I mean). Instead of offering a slew of new bosses to face off against you will find yourself backtracking and facing the same bosses again (in a somewhat different way of course). This doesn't take away from the greatness of the game but for the next DMC I could definitely do with out it. Overall DMC 4 does bring much respect back to a once great concept. The next game would be a great place to introduce even more features, enemies, bosses and overall game play elements. I am definitely curious as to whether or not we will see Nero again and what Capcom may do for the next installment in the world of Devil May Cry!

2 out of 5 stars Not so great   February 27, 2008

I know that fanboys are going to jump on my back, so shame on me in advance for writing an honest review. In the past I've only played Devil May Cry 2 for the ps2, and this seems like almost the same game. Good graphics, but other than that this is not a next gen game at all. Very repetative gameplay. You get to hear the same battle song and Neros lame one liners over and over("Slam dunk!"). The player has very little control of the camera, which is very annoying and outdated. Even the menus aren't very intuitive. There must be fans of this series out there, otherwise capcom wouldnt have made a 4th one, but for everyone else this is an ok rental. It was NOT worth $59.99.

2 out of 5 stars Nothin' to brag about   February 27, 2008

After the insanely hard DMC 1 & 3, this game kinda lacks, The game didn't
get interesting till you played as Dante! The story was dull, the action was dull and repetitive, the few boss fights they had were okay, and as said earlier the cool stuff doesn't come till you play as Dante: the boss powerups, the 5 fighting styles and the usual humor and action that
only come with dante! If you are die hard DMC,buy the game, other than that, I would just rent it!

5 out of 5 stars The best Devil May Cry To Date? I believe So   February 19, 2008

As i bought my PS2 with Devil may cry i couldn't believe how good it was. I played DMC maybe five times throughout my PS2 days. Not in a row but when a game got me going back you know it's good. So of course i was hyped for Devil May Cry 2...sad of course. It wasn't nearly as good as it could of been. Then Devil May cry 3 comes along, and i had doubt, but quickly went away. It was a knockout and a easy 9/10 for me. So here comes Devil may Cry 4. New characters, new adventure, and on a next gen system!

Story - 9 - The story is anything special. No it's not going to change your world and as a book it would suck. But guess what? With the great fight scenes the story becomes very entertaining and keeps you glued to your seat. I actually enjoyed the story of this one a bit more then 3 and more then 2 and 1.

Graphics - 10 - Outstanding. With each Devil May Cry they keep pushing the graphics and this one is no exception. With it's effects, models, and design it's all here. The graphics are top notch and work very well. If you don't like the designs well it's your lost. The graphics still shine and even better in HD.

Gameplay - 9 - Why not a perfect 10? Well Nero is a great new edition. Really makes the gameplay change up but the problem i had with it is it becomes a bit to easy at times. But once Dante comes in and the old devil may cry gameplay feeling along with it you get right back into it. Nero is fun but Dante is where it's at. So a 9 in total, 5/5 for Dante and 4/5 for Nero.

Enjoyment - 8 - A short adventure but plenty of difficulties. Theres a few problems though, mostly just nitpicking. I disliked that Dante had less missions and i know Nero is now the new main but Dante should of had the same amount. Also they don't explain how Nero and "Vergil" dante's brother are related. They leave a few to many answers unanswered and although i love capcom i can't see em explaining them in future games.

Final Score - 9.2 - Really the best there is at the moment. I love 1 and 3 but 4 is the best if you ask me. So you can't lose with this one, devil may cry 4 is indeed a winner on both PS3 and XBOX360.
