An A for Orginality August 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First off, I avoided the hype (and the $59 price tag) when this came out and got it used cheap. I think this always skews my review a bit, but there are few games in this world worth $60 in my opinion. However, Assassin's Creed is like no games in the world, and was very much worth my $29. :-)
Graphically, its outstanding. Rendered textures and lighting are some of the best and most realistic I've seen on a 360 game. It got buggy in a few spots, but on a good LCD TV with HDMI inputs, you'll be impressed. The sound, from the music to the AI "chatter" is brilliant, and adds a real cinematic feel to the experience. Gameplay is solid, and easy to pick up, and its a helluva lot of fun to climb the highest church tower in Acre and leap off.
Cons are few. The gameplay gets repetitive if you play ALL the sub-missions, and I absolutely hate unrealistic, craptastic gopher missions like the "get all the flags within 3 minutes" ones. Also, a lot of the fights do get a little lengthy, and your button mashing hand will get its workout until you figure out what combos to hit and get your timing down pat, at which point you will take on 20 enemies with a Shaolin-like flow.
I loved the storyline, and no other game I've ever seen crosses the historical lines like this one. I think its one of the most imaginative and creative stories in a game, ever.
It gets 4 stars from me because now that I'm done, I'm probably never going to play it again. It was a great experience, there just no payoff to going back to it. Like a great summer blockbuster movie, once you have gotten the thrills and chills, it never has the same effect, and I would guess this game would be the same way.
Dont let that stop you though - especially now that the price has dropped AGAIN, you've got no excuse but to add this to you collection. It WILL occupy many, many nights of your life.
Great Game exept for one thing July 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The only thing i don't like is that you cant speed through the talking. If you listen to a conversation and you end up dying before a save, you have to listen to the conversation over again, and you cant fast forward! Thats The only thing i don't Like. Oh and it gets a little repetitive after awhile. But the assassinations are pretty cool, I Like them. And The whole killing other guys is neat, if you know how to do it right. Overall its a really good game and real fun.
Great Concept, Foundation for a Great Series! July 28, 2008 Looking forward to future installments of Assassin's Creed. This game has a lot of potential.
Not my cup of tea July 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't usually give into these kind of games, but Amazons price had enticed me to just try it out. I played for a few hours or so, trying out my assassin and horse riding abilities. I just cant get into the the game though. To me it seemed a little repetitive. ie go here, then go there, then return here. the story line was just a little confusing too, set in the future, but yet set in the past. It didn't make sense, and so I resold it after giving the game a few chances.
Assassin's Life Not For Everyone July 21, 2008 What drew me to this game was the method, assassin, and the location/time period, Holy land during the crusades. This is not so much a first person shooter where you are constantly shooting and blasting. It is slow paced and reserved. I think Ubisoft's not giving in to action junkies is to be applauded. Rather, in this game the kills are well spaced and calculated, and the killing is gooood. It's fun to know you are a major mofo and yet have to chill. If you do get a little antsy it can lead to more than you can handle and you get yourself killed. The scripted linear missions are pretty good and make for an interesting, colorful storyline. I enjoyed the off script activities of walking through the cities, jumping and climbing rooftops, and the occasional assasination of a random guard who found himself patroling alone or killing people your not supposed to.What? Everyone does it! The enviornment is awesome.
For me being able to emerse myself in this time period with theese charachters is enough to buy the game in itself. Let me just say that Ubisoft has done an amazing job of recreating this world. It does take you time to get places and there are lots of people and places to see along the way. Judging by a lot of the small details they really put some time and thought into this. I mean you stop at a bluff overlooking city gates and you can see and hear the cicadda's (grasshopper bugs)! That's detail!
Overall this is an enjoyable game. Again I applaud Ubisoft for staying true to the theme. I'm sure and assassin's life isn't for everyone. Yes, killing can get repetitive.Being a trained killer can dull the challenge level a tad but if you get yourself into a bad enough situation you can and will get hurt. Mostly you just have to chill, cruise the streets and rooftops and do your business quickly and skillfully when it does come. I like this game.
Wish list for Assassins II ? Free play level, more extensive access for utilization and exploration of enviornment. + more, more, more.
