5 out of 5 stars Absolute classic   January 22, 2005
DKC is quite simply one of the greatest games of all-time and, as others have mentioned, it still stands up today. A classic game never dies and just like any other media, classic computer games seem to age extremely well and remain as playable as they ever were when they originally came out. DKC has everything: Fantastic graphics, great music & sound effects and, above all else, totally addictive playability on a par with the Mario games.

It's now over a decade since this game came out on the SNES and all I can still say is that Donkey Kong Country is worth buying a SNES for...even today!

5 out of 5 stars The first game I ever played!   October 18, 2004

I remember playing this. I had a lot of fun with it. It saved Nintendo, really it did!

Graphics:11/10: It set the SNES to its limits. Crystal clear 3D images. Great rain and water.

Sound:10/10: Great sound. The monkey's grunts sound pretty good.

Music:10/10: Jungle music that is very catchy.

Gameplay:9/10: Although not as good as the other 2, it's fun.Play as Donkey or Diddy and romp through many worlds. You can also ride on animal buddies, too.

I suggest you to get this!

5 out of 5 stars proof that you don't need next gen. garbage for a great game   September 25, 2004

Donkey Kong Country really pushed the limits of what the SNES could do. The graphics were very ahead of their time. I don't normally rate graphics, but this game gets points just because it had 3-d textures and characters in a 2-side scroller, which was a first for games back then. Also, the sound design in this game is great. Each sound is clear, and you can easily distinct the step of one of those fat brown dudes with the green army helmets from the sound of a crocodile's mouth opening and closing. This game is loads of fun, with two characters who you can switch between depending on what the situation calls for. There are tons of secrets to find, and riding around on the animals is an experience a true gamer could never forget. This game serves up great challenge without getting too hard. The levels in this game are brilliantly designed, and make for deeply addictive gameplay. If you like this one, check the second and third one also, as the series builds on its weak points as well as its strong points, making for great, well rounded gameplay in all of the games.
