3 out of 5 stars 80GB PS3, nope!   February 26, 2008
After reading a review that this would work on the PS3, I ordered one up to give it a try. Sadly, although it may work on the 60GB model, I've discovered it does NOT work on the 80GB model. Before the disc even boots up, the PS3 returns to the main menu and tells you it is not compatible with this system. Oh well, here's yet another reason why I wish I'd bought the 60GB model...

I'm giving it 3 stars, because I'm sure it works great, only I haven't seen it in action, and never will apparently on my 80GB PS3.

4 out of 5 stars Works Fine For Me   January 18, 2008
So far it has worked fine for me. Just don't activate too many codes for a game at one time and read the codebreaker forum too see if any cheats for the game you want to use it on have side effects.

The memory card formatting program is a nice tool to have when a saved game becomes corrupted.

The only problem I have is that sometimes it take several tries for the disk to be read by my PS2 even after I adjusted the laser.

5 out of 5 stars Great product   December 21, 2007
This is a great product to buy when you want to do some cheating in your favorite games. The game list is HUGE and the cheats are very easy to use and put in.

1 out of 5 stars PRODUCT CAN CORRUPT YOUR GAMES   December 8, 2007
5 out of 10 found this review helpful

The initial reason I bought this product was to activate some cheats for "Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando" so I can beat it faster, along with "Up Your Arsenal," before I tried my hands at the most recent Ratchet game for the PS3...man, do I regret playing with temptation and getting this product. The CodeBreaker RUINED my Going Commando disc after I activated several cheat codes; MY PS2 WOULD NO LONGER RECOGNIZE THE DISC AS A PS1 OR PS2 DISC, and the only way I could actually start the game was to put in the CodeBreaker disc first, go to the menu, then insert the game disc and start the game. So maybe it isn't broken after all, right? Wrong! After doing so, all I would be able to do was going to the main menu, start a new game (upon which it would completely freeze after the intro FMV on a black screen!) or load a game (upon which it would completely freeze after the spaceship flight scene, again on a black screen!)! The game is broken, and there is no way CodeBreaker can fix it. I tried disabling the cheats I activated at the outset, but it was of no use.

EDIT1: To clear up any confusion, if there was any in my language, the device does actually not damage your console or disc physically. As one person in the comments of this review noted, it probably corrupted the RAM and would thus prevent the disc from loading or being read by the PS2, or something in that manner. As it is, this may still be considered "damage," and there may not be a fix other than to buy a new disc or PS2.

Ratchet wasn't the only problem I encountered. I downloaded an option file from Gamefaqs for one of my games, which had an updated roster for all teams (Winning Eleven Pro Evolution Soccer 2007, to be specific). There was no problem getting the option file onto a USB drive and then, using CodeBreaker, TRYING to copy the option file onto one of my memory cards...I received an error with a message that mentioned something like the file could not be transferred. After resetting and inspecting my memory card, I noticed that I had exactly 0 (!!!) KB left, even though the option file was at the outset only a few hundred KB in size, and I had over 2500 KB left on the card. Was it the fault of the safe file, perhaps? I doubt it very much, considering what happened with my Ratchet disc!

EDIT2: In the end, does this device work with other games? Based on the other reviews on this site, it does. Because of this, my 1-star rating may look harsh at first; however, do consider that this device can NEGATIVELY impact your games, and not make them work anymore, or corrupt a safe file on your memory card (which could make you lose many hours you put into a particular safe file). The fact that there is no clear warning about such a problem possibly occuring is troublesome, and the fact that the fix to this problem may end up being costly (i.e., buying a new game disc or console) does not improve the matter.

In sum, think carefully when buying this product, and if you do, apply it with caution. Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars A very useful disc   December 2, 2007

I normally do not use cheat devices for my games/consoles (only got this to uncover a certain censored game recently), but I didn't realize what potential this particular product had. There is a massive library of pre-coded games in the database (you can manually add/download more to your memory card). The only problem I had with this product is that inputting codes without a keyboard is a very tedious affair. Quite possibly the best cheat device I have come across yet, highly recommended.
