5 out of 5 stars Rock Band Birthday   September 28, 2008

This was a gift for my son's birthday. He loves it and says it is so much fun. I tried it as well and it is addictive. You want to keep playing to see if you can get better. And it's not just the guitar like "Guitar Hero", but also drums and microphone. Awesome!!

4 out of 5 stars GET IT!   September 21, 2008

Ordered Rock Band on a Thursday and got it the following Monday, talk about fast. It was incredibly easy to set up and gameplay was flawless; at first.

Although I have an LCD TV, there was no need to calibrate the system to compensate for lag. Everything was perfect; until the following day. My instrument of choice is the drums and I started off on medium receving five stars on all the songs I had gotten to. However, on the second day of play, I kept missing notes, every note really. I thought maybe it was in need of a good calibrating but that didn't help so I picked up the guitar and the same thing happened. I thought maybe it was me so I had some skilled friends try it but to no avail. It seemed as though the game just didn't work anymore so I put it away for the day.

I decided to try again the following day just to make sure and it was perfect again. I didn't understand it but was happy all the same. I've been playing the game since September 8 and have had three or four days where it just doesn't work. I've never had that problem with any other game so who knows what the problem is. I've yet to hear similar stories so perhaps it's just my system. Just make sure that your PS2 is able to play the disc before purchasing it and being let down.

Other than those unexplainable off-days, the gameplay is great. The songs are supposed to be set up to be easiest first and while that seems to be the case most of the time, I've found that I can play the last songs much easier on both instruments than some songs in the middle. That's no big deal though. Other than the bonus songs, the song choice is great.

The battery life for the guitar is insane. I've played countless hours on that thing and am still using the batteries it came with. The guitar is light but holds up really well. The strummer should've been dead by now but it's still going strong. The smaller fret buttons up the neck are perfect for younger kids who can't seem to get their fingers to work on the larger buttons.

The red pad on the drums seems a bit harder to get an acknowledgement of being hit and I've heard that from MANY people. However, it's not so bad to the point of not being fun, just frustrating when you've got perfect song going and miss a beat you shoudn't have. I've heard of people having problems with the foot pedal as well. No, I haven't had mine terribly long but I've definitely slammed that thing over and over and it's held up just fine. I don't expect that set to be breaking any time soon.

As for the singing, everything with that is fine, it just seems that the words are a bit small. I've got good vision and a 32" TV and I still find myself sitting right up on it to read the words. Keep in mind, though, that there needs to be room for four players on the screen so it being a bit small is understandable. The mic is nice and solid with plenty sensitivity.

I got lucky and only paid $100 for the whole package. The price went up a couple days after I purchased. It's a great deal for what I paid and even for the $130 that it is now, it won't let you down. Can't wait for Rock Band 2 to come out as it should have updated instruments. But if you want to pay less and get pretty much the same thing, get this package instead.

3 out of 5 stars Guitar Hero with drums and microphone   September 21, 2008

This game is pretty much Guitar Hero with drums and a microphone. I didn't get what all of the hype was about. All of my friends like it, and I don't get why. But I don't care. This version doesn't have downloadable songs or online play. This game stinks. I don't know why I even wanted it in the first place. But it all comes down to this: if you don't know how to play an instrument and you want to jam along with Rolling Stones, Coheed and Cambria, Mountain, and Iron Maiden, I suggest you get this. On the other hand, if you do know how to play an instrument and you don't like any of the above bands I listed, I suggest you play your own music and not wasted your time with this, even if the graphics are good.

This is the best thing out..Great for the whole family. Since we got this we all spend time together. We now have a family night just for jam sessions.
