enter the chase!!! November 21, 2007 usually i dont write review on anything i buy, but this product urged me to share my reviews. i am huge fan of need for speed. i have almost every NFS game. what i saw in previous games is that you are not likely to be chased by police and have limited roaming access. this is not like others, i have played carbon too but carbon is not much fun than most wanted. though one thing i noticed is that in previous NFS UD and NFS UD2, you have lot of options to tune up your car, paint, vinyls, and colored nitro, spinners but not in this game. just put things you want and get going. it has a lot of heat and very intense when police heat goes up. so i suggest this game for those players who can keep thier kool and not break thier system after losing by just seconds. one drawback is that it doesnt have cars that i wanted, very limited.
OVERALL 4.5
FUNstastic November 13, 2007 It's a great game, very addictive, have a lot of options to make it fun. It's fun like the others NFS games of EA. My unique complaint it's with the Amazon description of the game, don't feature online race for the PS2 and that's why I bought one for me and other to my nephew.
great game but it leaves some stuff out August 21, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This game is great. here are some things about it.
Pros: There are tons of nice cars. great graphics cops you can destroy stuff on the street tons of stuff to tune your car new race events if you beat a boss and you get a pink slip you get that boss's car you can destroy cop cars.
cons: almost immediatly after beating a race, you have to try to not get caught by the cops. there are some stuff that is not on this game than the last game like spinners, neon (but who needs it in this game, because you are driving during the day time), split hoods, custom doors. after you beat the game you can't do free roam in quick race where you can drive your cars in My Cars.
well i hope the cons won't keep you from buying a really fun game.
Up There with the Greatest Games in the NFS Series July 29, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My top reason for buying this in the first place was the presence of the police- the thing that had drawn me to Need for Speed in the first place. The story is not the cliche "build your reputation by winning loads of races for no reason." In this game, you start out with a super fast car, but it's sabotaged by your opponent, and so you lose the race and he gets the pink slip (ownership of the car). Now you must work your way back up to where you were before- on top of the Blacklist, the most wanted by the police. So basically, you have 15 rivals that you must beat by participating in and winning stock races and completing "milestones", challenges in where you outrun the police while causing as much damage as possible, totalling as much PCs as possible, blasting through roadblocks, etc. You gain money from races, which can be invested in performance upgrades, or the useless visual upgrades to make your car look cooler. There's many different visual upgrades from real-life brands, with options such as rims, spoilers, hood/roof scoops, body kits, paint jobs, etc. And of course, cars galore, with around 40 to choose from. Here's the lowdown:
PROS
-fast-paced, action-packed gameplay as you try to race ahead of your oppponents and outrun police- or both at the same time
-real-life cars and real-life upgrades with countless combinations to suit your style
-little learning curve with a great control setup
-your car is no longer so ridiculously fast you're driving circles around the police. nor are the police so stupid, bumbling, and slow they can't keep up with a car doing 80 (pretty slow by NFS standards)
-GREAT AI AND POLICE TACTICS: the police employ roadblocks, spike strips, helicopters, and even heavy SUV rammers in a ruthless attempt to stop you dead in your tracks. the police don't just chase you around any more, they may try to box you in or get into formation and then suddenly hit the brakes on you. backup comes periodically, instead of just 5 police cars in the entire city at all times. in fact, NFS Carbon has MW cop-AI.
CONS
-REALISM: you can get into huge crashes that will only slow you down, and the most damage you can ever receive is broken windows and flat tires.
-sometimes there are little invisible barriers along the sides of a road. for example when driving along the guardrail on the freeway sometimes the car seems to crash and then suddenly stop.
-DIFFICULTY: in later points in the game where you must achieve massive feats against the police (i.e. dodge 10 spike strips or damage 22 police vehicles), it is VERY FRUSTRATING. because even after you achieve this, you must evade the police by staying out of visual contact with the police (takes a few minutes), and this is almost impossible with police cars that are fast as you (avg speed around 120) and..HELICOPTERS! in fact, MW cops are in NFS carbon, with less equipment to bust you with. but don't think that'll be easy!
-IN-GAME MUSIC: mild lyrics at worst, though i never paid much attention to the songs or understood the lyrics, but i easily noticed how about 10 different songs were recycled throughout the entire game. however, i recall a reviewer saying there were over 30 in the game.
NOTE: The "T" for "Teen" rating is simply for the lyrics of the songs that play while you're racing. Nothing too vulgar, in fact, I'm not quite sure because I never paid attention to the song, nor do most songs have lyrics that are easily understandable at first listen.
