3 out of 5 stars Strictly a rental   May 21, 2008
This game follows the story of the movie, which like in most cases makes for a bad game. The graphics are good, and suit controls are easy to learn.
This game has several flaws in it,first of all you dont get the full suit functions or the option of first person mode. The only way you can grab an object is to fly into it or catch it in mid air. The extra suits dont make that much of a difference and are a pain to get.
The one up side to this game is the free flight mode.
Over all This is a rental.

2 out of 5 stars The same ol' tale: great film, mediocre game.   May 21, 2008
I may be asking a lot out of this generation of games. Iron Man is the same song-and-dance. You have an anticipated blockbuster action film, and you have to develop the accompanying game for six different gaming consoles, including the PC, and turn out the final product in time for said film's release. Already you can expect the game's visuals to be lackluster, although Shellhead himself is surprisingly well-done.

The game lives by the "Lather, rinse, repeat" philosophy of many action games. Iron Man has an impressive number of moves, flight stunts, and weapons, but all you will ever have to do is hover over an enemy for a minute, hold down the right trigger, watch the beams destroy the enemy. This goes on for a few levels, and I will admit here that at some point I just gave up, so I have yet to even finish the game. Be ready to eat about one hundred enemy missiles. Congratulations if you've avoided one or caught one and threw it back at an enemy, but here come about 99 more. I had enough by that point. Iron Man is a shallow, empty product. A character with so many capabilities reduced to the lamest presentation ever and it makes me sad. I shouldn't be surprised. No one should, and yet I am. I wanted this game to be good, because I managed to enjoy the demo. I think I was better off crawling back to my copy of Transformers: The Game, or even King Kong. There isn't a whole lot to say because there isn't a whole lot to do with Iron Man. The only thing that makes this worth a look is unlocking Iron Man's past armored suits. You can more than likely find it for $10 by September.

4 out of 5 stars If you like air combat/simulation games and Ironman this is a must   May 21, 2008

This game might be boring for some, but in my personal case I am a huge fan of Ironman and also flight simulation/war games (like TFX, EF2000 and its sequels, US Navy Fighters, Red Baron... you get it if you know any of these titles).
I love it so far

1 out of 5 stars Waste of Money   May 21, 2008

My eleven-year-old nephew finished this game in a couple hours, and no, he's not some video game prodigy. It's very clear to me that this game was an after thought to cash in on the timing of the movie. It doesn't have to be that way, though. My nephew has gotten hours upon hours of fun from his Spiderman video games. In this case, though, it's obvious something was just slapped together with little development effort. What a waste of money, and more important, a HUGE disappointment to the kids who eagerly anticipated it.

3 out of 5 stars decent game//better than people are saying   May 12, 2008

7/10

the good-

big levels
good replay value
good powers

the bad-
sub par graphics(terrible at times)
bad sound quality on the battlefield
no lock on system
bad enemy ai
-(you can hide behind a rock and they seem to forget they even saw you)

----------------------------------------------

they really get the feel of iron man down in this game, probably better than any other superhero game, besides of course Spiderman 1-3 and Incredible Hulk Ulitmate Destruction. you can hover, fly, use turbo thrusters for high-speed flight. you have various long range attacks from small lazers to the uni-beam. to those of you who arent familiar, its a huge beam that shoots from the circle on his chest, usually obliterating all in its path. you can also take great advantage of Iron Man's strength, ripping helicopters and tanks in half. you can also upgrade and customize all abilities.

the controls could've been a little more solid, but they're far beyond those of Superman the game, which is really the only base for comparison. there are very few games out there utilizing such an epic powerset. Marvel Ultimate Alliance(as amazing as it is) doesnt really count, its more of a dungeon crawler. a lock on system would've made combat a lot more headache-free. especially against the fighter jets.

in the end, its the only game that truly makes you feel like Iron Man. its honestly epic in every way, there were just a few bad design choices and a rushed release, which would explain the poor enviromental graphics(iron man himself looks good)

so any fan of Iron Man, or super heroes in general should try it. DEFFINITELY RENT before buying. just dont set your hopes too high.
