One to be played in Retro-vision February 23, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I originally played this game, I also had Pokemon Blue, and I was focused mainly on the 'primary goal' of "Gotta Catch 'Em All". The new features of Breeding to get eggs to hatch, and finding certain monsters at certain times of the day, were, at the time, only tools to that end. (Call me a "Team Rocket Grunt"... if you dare.). But after playing P.Ruby and P.Sapphire I realize how much more skill is needed in staying up until Midnight, turning on the game, looking for a Gastly at 'Nite'... and not hide under the blanket with a flashlight; or catching a Pikachu to raise and have it raise a Pichu family of offspring... Visually, P.Gold is "twice-as-good" as Red/Blue/Yellow, in part to it being wholly designed for the Gameboy Color (and yes, the Gameboy Advance can play it too). The Pokedex Encyclopidia animations are nice, too. And for those that notice: The introductions of a Secret Base of sorts- with Record Mixing, decorating your room, more involvement of the Professor in your training, more specialized Pokeballs, plant tending, and more of an after-Elite Four storyline. The biggest draw back in the storyline, though, is effectivly dropping the originally unnamed land of Kanto to the background with not as much to do beside fighting the older Gym Leaders.
This is One of the Better Games November 24, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This game is Great! I got this one a few years ago, and I still play it. I like the fact that, not only can you visit the Johto region, but you can also visit the Kanto region as well, but you can only do that only after you defeat the Elite Four and complete other missions (I forgot what those were, since I haven't played them in a while). Plus, the graphics are much improved over the Red, Blue and Yellow Versions, and I like how they have the Day/Night feature on here... i think that's what I will like about Diamond and Pearl as well. The clock feature is really cool too. You can have this game on the road with you and still know what time it is. I highly recommend this game!
Easily the best Pokemon game out there! November 24, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Pokemon Gold version is easily the best Pokemon game, even though its graphics just don't match up to Ruby and Sapphire. A majority of the cons in the Red and Blue versions have been fixed. For instance, the graphics have been improved and are no longer just one color. You also have the ability to set some items, such as the bike, on select, so that you don't have to open up your backback ever time (they also made the backpack with additional pockets to keep the Pokeballs, keyitems, and items seperated). The game is so addicting and different from the other Pokemon games, such as how it changes from day to night, enabling you to capture different Pokemon, depening on the time. Training your Pokemon, in my opinion, is a lot more fun in this game then in Red version, maybe because the graphics and animation have been improved. You can easily play this game for hours, and even after you defeat the Elite Four, it still doesn't become boring because you can travel to Kanto afterwards! However, after I finished the game and raised a couple of my Pokemon up to level 100, the game corrupted! I don't know if I'm the only one this has happened to, so I'm not sure if I should get another one (when it corrupted, I didn't just lose my game-the game broke, to)! All in all, however, I would reccomend this game to anyone that enjoys role-playing games!

I LOVE THIS GAME! October 30, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am a 13 year old girl and I loved this game when I was little. I played it all the time and was totally obsessed. The game-play and graphics were an improvement from Red, Blue, and Yellow. The new Johto Pokemon were cute (and still are!) and there is barely any bad things about this game at all. I played this game until I had 3 level 100 Pokemon and I had almost filled my Pokedex. It can last you for hours on end without even getting bored of it! There is only a couple problems with this game. I didn't do anything to my Gold version at all (such as using the Game Shark or looking for Missing No.) but once when I turned on my game, it said "Save File Corrupted" and my whole game was gone and all my Pokemon were gone and everything! I still haven't quite figured out why this happened, but I was upset because I loved that game a lot. I didn't want to bother starting over because I'd never get as far as before and I had some new Pokemon games I could play, but I will never forget how fun this game was. Another problem was that you couldn't be a girl in it, but that's okay.
Even though this is an older game, I still reccommend it to anyone!
