A classic January 11, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Anyone who enjoyed Baldur's Gate, or who enjoys computer RPGs in general, might enjoy this game. It helps if you think Star Wars is cool.
The XBOX version, sadly, does not contain the expanded material available to the PC version of the game. Even so, I find the game much, much more playable on the XBOX.
The voice-acting on this game is really, really good. The considerable talents of Jennifer Hale, Raphael Sbarge, Kevin Michael Richardson, Ed Asner, Cat Taber, and Rafael Ferrer make it a near-cinematic experience; and Kristoffer Tabori's turn as HK-37 is dang near the best voice-acting I have ever heard in a video game.
A must-have for any Star Wars or computer RPG fan.
Excellent immersion into the Star Wars world January 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is truly an addictive game. You pick it up thinking "just an hour" and before you know it 3 or 4 hours have gone by. I've completed it 2 times (and am on my third time right now) and it's taken about 85 hours total to complete both times.
The fact that I'm playing it again speaks volumes about how good this game is. You have the option to be a good jedi or evil sith - the neat part is every decision you make will have consequences as to which path you will follow - a unique concept, which made the game more realistic.
The controls were easy to pick up, and the storyline had a surprising twist, to say the least. I just recently got KotOR II, and am looking forward to that, and seeing whether they can come up with any more surprises.
The basic story of this game is you're part of the Republic army who crash lands in an escape pod on the world Taris, together with a Republic soldier named Carth Onassi. Together, you rescue the jedi Bastilla and escape Taris before it is destroyed by Darth Malek - leader of the Sith armies. From there you go on to Dantoine, study to become a jedi and set off on a quest for the jedi council travelling to several different worlds. Those familiar with the Star Wars saga will enjoy visiting such notable worlds as Tatooine, amongst other places.
I highly recommend this game. Although, just don't blame me if you get addicted to it!

Visually beatiful. Incredibly Moving. A little cumbersome.
When the big monster ate my spaceship and the dog was like whoa it was awesome. I don't know a lot about starwars, but i know they make a great game. Half way through the game when i realized i was falling to the darkside, i was scared to find that i liked being evil, and i had no trouble putting to used the force on innocents in my way.
All around this game is great! Giving you a chnace to choose your own great destiny. The only drawback, is that after the amazemet of being able to fry a twi'lek inside out subsides, combat looses its shine and becomes cumbersome. but its not bad enough to keep you from playing it through again to save the galaxy and be a hero. just keep your wookie happy, they can be a pain when they're grumpy.
BUY THIS GAME December 16, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
THIS GAME BY FAR IS THE BEST STAR WARS GAME EVER MADE. If you have an xbox or xbox360 buy this game!!!
(I think it's better than halo + halo2)
This Game Takes Place a Really, Really Long Time Ago. November 30, 2006 I grew up on the original Star Wars movies. I've been a fan of the universe that Lucas built for most of my life. However, when I first heard about KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC, I was hesitant about playing it. I like the original universe that Lucas created and the world of KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC seemed a bit unnecessary to me. I mean, the original movies and books made Lucas a fortune and I just couldn't understand why well enough couldn't be left alone. Granted the age of the Old Republic is the perfect place to spawn new Star Wars tales without damaging the content or history of the classic series. My curiosity about the game became further piqued when the game won several video game awards. I eventually gave in and played the game and I'm glad that I did.
Like many other Star War games, in KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC you create a character that seems to be tapped into the Force. You're able to use a lightsaber (or better yet, a double-bladed lightsaber when you find them), become trained in the Force, and eventually gain many different Force powers. There are other skills that can be acquired throughout the game and during your quest, you can be joined by several different characters that you can choose to play as throughout the game, including a Han Solo-kind-of-guy named Carth and a droid that reminds one C-3PO if he was more masculine and was an assassin instead of a protocol droid.
The gameplay of KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC isn't really anything spectacular and the graphics are just a tad better than standard. What separates the game from other similar games is the storyline. KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC boasts an original story that makes a player want to continue playing just to see how the story will end. Throughout the game your actions determine the nature of your character and ultimately there are four different ways the game can end. I played the game so that I could see the four different endings. The game isn't as open-ended as the marketers have made it out to be. Everyone who plays the game gets the general same experience, the major differences being in if characters join your group and how they behave. The overall scenario is virtually the same with little variation. Also, as noted before the graphics aren't that great--you would think that with an original Star Wars game, the creators would be able to come up with something more impressive.
Overall, KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC is a great video game. Star War fans are sure to enjoy it (if they are willing to put aside their initial reluctance), but people who aren't fans will enjoy playing the game as well.
