3 out of 5 stars gameplay? amazing. difficulty? err....   March 14, 2007
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

this will just be echoing what many others are saying, but i'll put in my 2 cents. i didn't know what to expect from ninja gaiden because usually i play FPS's. i wasn't very impressed with devil may cry 3 (probably the closest equivalent to this game). as it turns out, ninja gaiden is an outstanding game in almost every way. the graphics look terrific even though it's a bit "old" by now. people fawn over the graphics of games like gears of war.. give me a break, this game looks way better than that. the controls feel very tight (another thing people don't think about in games). the weapons and special moves are awesome, the game features a plot and stores similar to resident evil 4, which is great. most importantly IT'S JUST FUN. and that's more than i can say for most games.

the thing that brings this game down is the difficulty. i read an interview with the maker of ninja gaiden, and he says he likes games that are hard and it should feel like an accomplishment, yada yada.. that's great in theory and all, except i'm not playing games to brag to other people about what a great gamer i am. i'm playing them to have fun, and it's not fun to lose over and over again. i definitely agree most games are too easy now, and i'd much rather play a game like this than a game that's hard for bad reasons like poor game design or bugs. however, there's something to be said for balance. why not have an easy game mode for gamers like me who don't want to suffer? would that really be so bad? at least you can save your game, which helps..

the other flaw i found in the game is nowhere in the manual or game did it say which buttons to press to use the ninpo powers. these powers are vital precisely because the game is so difficult. i searched everywhere and could not find how to use them. thank God i finally found out which buttons to use on the internet. that's an annoying flaw. so that's about it. ninja gaiden is a great game, but you better have the patience to keep trying to win battles...

5 out of 5 stars Great but Ninja Gaiden Black better.   January 30, 2007

I purchased this game after purchasing ninja gaiden black only because it has an old NES game that I wanted to check out.

The first thing I want to mention about this game and the black version is that black has more enemies.

2. It has an easy setting for those who cant hack it.

3. The camera angles have been much improved over this version.

3. It has 50 side missions.

4. It has been much improved indeed. So if your looking to to purchase this game maybe you should reconsider and get black.

besides that this is one of best games on any system (including the 36o, and ps3)

5 out of 5 stars Quite simply the best...   January 5, 2007
Yes it has a learning curve, but there is no better action game for Xbox. Period.

The game forces you to master the controls before you pass the first level, but once that happens, look out. Nothing is smoother, faster, looks better, or is more fun.

5 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware   August 22, 2006

Before we begin let me say this ninja gaiden fro the xbox is one of the best game on the system. The graphics are well, jaw dropling, especially the girls. However gamers should be warned about just how bloody hard this game is.

WHen i say hard I mean that the easiest setting of the game is as hard as the most difficult setting on most other games. So hard that even the normal enemies can chop off your rear, fry it and hand it back to you before you can blink. So be sure to rent this game before buying it.

Now then if you are skilled enough to even play this game, your in for a sweet ride. though the story is somewhat lacking the graphics as said before are some of the best ever, still on par with the stuff for the 360.

One of the greatest things about the game are the weapons, most of which can be upgraded. you have everything from the katana and nunchuks to a sword as big as cloud's ffVII, and yes it gives you real satisfation. each weapon plays different and has its own advantages, as dew the ever hardening enemies.

It is simple no way to give this game to high of praise, except for being the best game ever, it would need a better story then it has which feels like noh theater.

5 out of 5 stars One of Tecmo's best games, but Good Lord is it difficult   April 25, 2006
Ever since Ninja Gaiden was released on the old NES, I've been a fan of this series. However, after Ninja Gaiden 3 on the NES, Ryu Hayabusa wasn't seen or heard from until Dead or Alive was released on the Playstation.

Now, Team Ninja has brought Ryu back into his own, with a new Ninja Gaiden adventure on the Xbox. Sporting graphics that are just as good as Dead or Alive, and controls that add a great challenge to an already stellar game, Ninja Gaiden is probably one of the best adventure games that was released on the Xbox.

One thing that made the fun factor in this game a 4, instead of a 5, is the fact that this game is horribly difficult. It took me at least 10 tries to make it past the first boss.

Tecmo's made a great looking, great playing game. The difficulty makes this game fun, in it keeps challenging the player to find a new ways to win the fights that come at you.

I'd suggest it to anyone who loves a good action/adventure game. Definately one of the best games that Tecmo has released in the last few years.
