1 out of 5 stars Suck-Fest   November 21, 2007

If you liked "Gears of War", you are in for a let-down. Imagine walking around in the rain with limited weapons, basically no purpose, and no real desire to continue on. The movie tweens look great, but that's about it. No features, no cool ops, no purpose. Save your money and wait for the next series of Gears of War.

5 out of 5 stars A Fantastic But Probably Overlooked FPS   November 10, 2007

Since I played the demo, I knew I'd want this game. It's simply fun. Other than the time powers, it may not do much more than other FPSes, but it's the gameplay that counts. People might think being able to stop and slow down time would make the game super easy, but there are points where there are so many enemies that it can become quite tough. Especially as your time powers can only last a certain amount of time, you have to work fast if you don't want to die.

The graphics are for the most part great. Mostly what you'd expect from a next-gen game. The weapons are fun, but there could be a bit more variety. That AI is definitely quite good, but of course, the coolest part of the game is being able to slown down and stop time. There's nothing like blowing up a couple guys in slow mo, or stopping time and stealing the enemies' weapon then watching him freak out because he has no idea what just happened. The multiplayer is also a ton of fun and quite balanced. This game will actually pull me away from Halo for awhile. If you're into shooters, definitely add this to your list.

2 out of 5 stars Typical FPS Shooter with a VERY confusing storyline   November 9, 2007

I thought the trailer was fun and that the concept of manipulating time to aid in battle was quite creative, BUT when you actually buy the game and play it, it's a different story. Speaking of "story" - the storyline for the game is so fragmented and confusing that you'll be wondering what it was you actually accomplished when you finish the game (I logged in about 7hrs of total playing time to finish this game). You'll be saving your game progress a lot (trust me, you WILL). The battles get redundant and the puzzles to solve in regards to manipulating time are no-brainers and not that difficult. Aside from the redundant battles, slow time power charging, and so-so weapons, this game was a huge disappointment. I recommend that you RENT the game and not shell out $59.99 for it. I have yet to piece out the storyline. Little artsy tidbits of flashbacks and scenes of a Windows desktop doesn't tell much about the story. It sure left me disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Innovative and Fun   November 8, 2007

This game offers a unique twist on a genre that is growing stale. While other games are just sequels of past games, TimeShift allows you to control time in a way that no other game has explored. It is awesome to play with enemies by stopping, slowing and reversing time and watching their reactions.

What really makes this game great, though is the addition of a multiplayer mode that is one part quake, one part something so unique and different that it defies categorization. Imagine freezing an enemy in a stop bubble and rotating around them with gunfire, only to watch the bullets converge on the enemy when the grenade dissipates. Imagine throwing a reverse grenade in the path of an incoming rocket and watching the rocket enter the grenade and reverse back out right at the shooter. The possibilities in the MP are endless and I am still exploring them.

This game is great!

5 out of 5 stars Both Single AND MULTIPLAYER FUN--An Evergreen Classic   November 8, 2007

What a wonderful First Person Shooter. First--the Single Player takes a solid 20 plus hours (indoors, outdoors, in the air, and on) to play with the use of Slow, Reverse, and Stop time and your ability to literally gib--and reverse, gib and reverse, and play with your enemies. The game is technically astonishing with a depth of dynamic shadows, incredibly detailed environs and a butt-kicking (no-slow-down) frame-rate. Then when you get great at it--you can play it again against AI that is better than first rate and makes great use of your ability to confuse them (temporarily) with the time powers.
The Multiplayer though?
It puts other games to shame. I have never seen more game types--faster play for up to sixteen, and had such fun with everything from Rocket Arena to Team Deathmatch. There are new modes like King of Time (get the player with the time powers and you become the target) and Meltdown Madness where you use your four time grenades (Multiplayer has weaponized time bubbles) to slow the coolant to your enemies reactors. This is more fun than Halo 3, Half-Life Orange Box, and Bioshock combined (and actually longer than the new content in the three of them if you include multiplayer. Highly recommended.
